One aspect of the "affordability" story that the great minds who write on this shit seem unable to see is that Trump and his rich friends are trying to end work from home and force people back to the office. This is equivalent to an 8% pay cut, but I guess that's too simple.

Fix the Court, no amendment needed: Every circuit judge is now also a SCOTUS justice, and all current justices assigned to a circuit. SCOTUS cases heard by panels of 13, one judge from each circuit, selected randomly. Cert granted or denied by different random panels of 13.

This review of Jill Lepore’s WE THE PEOPLE is virtually impossible to find on the MONTHLY website, so I, tediously enough, will re-post the link several times. I am embarrassed to admit that I think it’s pretty good.
The result is generous, original, and fascinating—de-emphasizing the stories of the so-called Founding Fathers, and forwarding those of ordinary people, some of whom made constitutions of their own. We the People is also profoundly, indeed joyously, subversive.
