THIS. We have to sharpen the conversation about AI (and critics have to get a lot more fluent in the tech) because the regulatory space is still wide open, and the current path is going to lead to bullshit “self-regulation” if people keep denying the reality of millions of people using these tools.
my dudes there's no such thing as "too late" to regulate AI, that's a fake idea. AI models aren't untouchable data gods, they're algorithms hosted in cloud storage. Saying we can't regulate AI is like saying we can't deplatform Child P*rn bc "it's already out there". Like, 1s and 0s can be deleted

Open AI’s valuation is at $400 billion. They used about 190,000 books to train their plagiarism bot. Randomly saying 25% of their value comes from that stolen dataset, I think they owe the authors about $526,000 per stolen book.

And I'm tired of reading books with my red pen hand twitching. Of saying, "Where's the plot gone?" and "Fucksake, this part literally contradicts that part" and "what are these characters *for*?" and "OK, but why do I need to know this?" Those are things you want an editor to say. Not a reader.
