I know that in recent days there has been a lot of hullabaloo about moderation happening at the PDS level, which risks undermining the selling point of ATProto. One explanation that has been offered is just that lower-level moderation has not yet been fully implemented by bsky implementors.

So, if I'm implementing my own appview, what's stopping me from simply ignoring action labels?
glopforshort.bsky.social
Huh. I don't get the necessity of action labels. Seems like annotation labels should suffice and the "action" that gets taken should be up to the appview to decide.

This would single-handedly transform the lives of everyone I know in such profound ways it is difficult to fully articulate, but it would also let us actually make more and different and crazy things

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

There's nothing illegal about ICE block. This is solely about Apple appeasing the Trump regime.

With Google removing sideloading next year, these companies will have total control over what runs on your phone.

Apple removes ICEBlock app from App Store
Apple on Thursday removed the immigration enforcement tracking app, ICEBlock, from the App Store, citing "safety risks."

of course marx already said all of this but I don't remember where and im sure not gonna be able to find it by doing a search for "marx ideology"

such as networks that will actually host, or facilitate hosting, revolutionary politics. the AT protocol *can* be used for this.

these people really do believe what they claim to! (at least until they are down on their luck and have nowhere to turn) and by appealing to their sense of "freedom" in the libertarian sense, we can cause developments in the superstructure that empower the proletariat
glopforshort.bsky.social
by manipulating ideology we can manipulate behavior. in order to find the resolution to a contradiction, we have to understand and make use of ideology. in the case of bsky (another example that comes to mind is valve) we have a technolibertarian ideology
glopforshort.bsky.social
may be true, but not very useful. but there is a model we can use that is more useful. the explanation is ideology. people will act against their own interests according to their ideology. race isnt real, but racists think it is, and they (often but not always) behave according to a racist ideology.
glopforshort.bsky.social
I think bsky is a good illustration of a principle that although the general tendency exists for a class to act in its own interest, at the case by case level we often see individuals and even organizations acting against their interests and the only explanation that gets offered is "they're stupid"

because it means that arguing over whether ai is stealing or not is irrelevant, and instead we should talk about other issues like ecological impact or job security
glopforshort.bsky.social
Oh, I misread some of what you said. My bad. Lot of conversations happening simultaneously here.
glopforshort.bsky.social
they're only screwed because of the moralistic witch hunt against ai. you're the one screwing them!
glopforshort.bsky.social
I don't think it *is* never what's being talked about. Yes, it's not what's being talked about w.r.t power usage, but it is relevant for discussions of artistic merit and property.
glopforshort.bsky.social
I agree that the power cost is a much better objection, but then you start to look at the power cost and realize it's not really a big deal. From flawed methodologies trying to measure it, to the simple fact that you can just run models locally on your own computer.
glopforshort.bsky.social
You even use very familiar AI terminology when you speak about many different "agents" coordinating but autonomous.
glopforshort.bsky.social
See i think the way you phrased this is very interesting because to me when i look at something like reachartworks Infinite Art Machine project I also find merit in the idiosyncratic and emergent differences resulting from how its individual elements interact (in the cauldron of a neural network).
glopforshort.bsky.social
No, man, you're still not reading. Not for the stealers personal use; for the disney artist's. When they clock out, are they hustling? Are they on their own grind? Or are they doing it or fun?
glopforshort.bsky.social
Why are we looking at it purely as an asset (by which I think you also mean, in terms of its exchange value in an art market)? Not that I reject doing that for the sake of argument, but I want to understand why we're moving in this direction.
