It really doesn't. I was able to get air filters for the house directly from the manufacturer delivered for the same price as it does from Amazon. If you're using Amazon as your default online shopping tool and not shopping around, you're probably not seeing how manufacturers are offering the same.

Sometimes you can find the product from the manufacturer and buy from them directly. That's how I've shifted from shopping from Amazon. It requires a bit more legwork and might be a few more dollars, but in the end it cuts out Amazon getting a profit.
