scientists: we'll just blast our fumehood (safety cabinet specifically) with UV rays, that should sufficiently decontaminate it

mould: hold my melanin
Some #astrobiology reading for a Saturday morning: I really enjoyed this pop sci BBC article on finding biology like mould and frogs (!) adapting to life in radioactive Chernobyl by increasing melanin, i.e. what shields human skin from UV rays 🧪🔭 ”Life, uh, finds a way”

The mysterious black fungus from Chernobyl that may eat radiation
Mould found at the site of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster appears to be feeding off the radiation. Could we use it to shield space travellers from cosmic rays?

Haven’t seen #Tampines this dark in a while. Lights of all three shopping malls (usually insanely busy!!) are completely off.

Kind of reminds me of the #Cambridge - #London KGX train at night, actually. Pretty nice memory

gotten so used to trying to convert times in #Singapore to #UK times (either +8 or +7, depending on whether the #UK is doing #DaylightSavings) that my brain is trying to adjust to reading texts from friends and family here as just THE local time 🕗

#singapore #oceanarium started out strong but ended very weak.

3/10, would not recommend. Sorry.
(It’s our organisation’s family day — complete with a visit to the #Oceanarium. Nice.)

just over a month of returning to #Singapore and getting used to things again; didn't expect a #Cambridge - related skeet to appear

glad #strawberryfair is being revived! always nice to see the staple town events being continued

i do miss #Cambridge a lot and have many fond memories of the town
They're hoping to revive it!
Cambridge’s music scene comes together this month to save Strawberry Fair.
33 bands. 4 venues. 3 weekends. One mission: bring the city’s free festival back to life.

thought of the day: how do -80 Celsius freezers work?

how do they maintain such a large difference in temperature between what's inside (-80) and room temp (approx. 25)

that refrigerant must be super
