Love this one. The mother is so vividly drawn that I read another of Orr's stories (over on Expat). Excellent storyteller.

Oh, I love this GoFundMe aimed at helping @nisishawl.bsky.social fund the writing of a different kind of book: an "artifact of [an] imaginary philosophical movement". This is a book Nisi dreamed and has used in their fiction, so the idea of it jumping the veil into the realized world is thrilling.

Just read something pre-AI in which Margaret became Martha for a paragraph and then reverted to Margaret. I still remember the hair color of the hero in Niven & Barnes's novel Dream Park changing from red to black to red again.

An incredible review of @annieneugebauer.bsky.social's THE EXTRA from @edcrockerbooks.bsky.social in Grimdark Magazine!

"One of the most nail-biting endings of the year."

The Extra arrives September 9th.

Pull quote from a review of the Extra: "The Extra is a fantastic calling card for the author. This is a mood book. And the mood is unbearable, slow-boiling tension. One of the most nail-biting endings of the year."

In our last class this summer, I spoke with graduate students about careers in our field.

And I asked them something they said no teacher has asked them before "What do you think the Univeristy is paying me to teach this class you're taking right now?"

We should talk about this stuff!

To sum up: since the early 2000s, public universities lost most of their state funding. They recouped the loss by insisting that faculty be grant productive. This was case-by-case money that people earned via rigorous vetting process. *That’s* what the administration is taking away now.

True enough. The likelihood of a grimmythos collection being made up of stories that originally placed in other mythos anthologies seems high, and kind of poetic, given your original post.

I suspect this kind of antho would sell. So would a collection.
