Νικώμεν! A more than a decade long ambition was achieved today as I ran in and completed THE Marathon (so-called Athens Authentic Marathon). It was my first (and probably only) - such a great, if quite challenging, experience! And Athens in November is perfect.

“A shutdown falls on the president’s lack of leadership. I mean problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top. A shutdown means the president is weak.” – Donald Trump, 2013

Giving students thoughtful, personalized feedback and instruction is not a problem that originates from the difficulty for an instructor to generate feedback, it is a problem that originates from institutions pivoting to student:instructor ratios where that dynamic is not logistically feasible.

Just rewatched #TNG “Measure of a Man” & listened to accompanying @greatesttrek.com (late to the party I know!) but it has me wondering, why do I love Data but hate the current AI blitz? Then it hit me -cause Data has ethical subroutines. Only an idiot would build an AI without them. Oh wait… 😬

The firing of Jimmy Kimmel due to government pressure has rightly shaken those committed to free speech. Entertainers have always criticized politicians. The sign of a good politician who values free speech is to let them; only authoritarians take revenge - just ask the Romans./1

Ezra Klein's claim that Charlie Kirk "practiced politics the right way" is a categorization error in terms of what philosophers of science call "the demarcation problem" between science & pseudoscience. By analogy, Kirk engaged not in debate but pseudo-debate. nilsgilman.substack.com/p/stop-with-...

Just watched “Harakiri” (1962) for the first time. Perhaps the perfect film for this moment. From “the cruelty is the point” to the faux “manliness” of those behind it, to the sniveling coverup, it perfectly illustrates how hollow men will cover their emptiness with sham bravery and wonton cruelty.

Hi! Yeah -honestly I’d recommend going dual enrollment if you can -I partner with UMass Boston and the students don’t have to take a test, I make the syllabus, they get 3 actual college credits. Anyone I know who’s on a block doing AP spreads it out over 3/4 prose one semester, Virgil the next year
