'We needed a much more fluid, elastic, and broad category that was inclusive and “queer” was, in many cases, an attempt to create that space—an anti-identity, in a sense. Relatedly, “queer” was a word that could be played with.' She/Her
I'm not sure I agree, considering you can draw a line as: Wizardry -> Dragon Quest -> Sweet Home -> Resident Evil -> DMC.
Especially the first one. The Itsuno titles focusing more on the combat than exploration makes sense considering his time on the D&D arcade Beat-em-ups.

I also love how this game describes its environments. The minimalism in tilesets actually heighten the narrative imo, forcing you to read the *excellent* descriptions, and engaging your imagination to paint a scene that would have been impossible to render in 1990.

I'm so glad I've been diving deep into Wizardry, because I can see so much of what I've loved in other genres. Wizardry 6's opening castle feels so much like a Resident Evil mansion, including excursions into neighboring environments with parts of the castle still closed off for later.

The text-adventure style narration for each room is really cool imo. I really liked the story that was being told on the 2nd floor from just narration, imagination, and room layout alone.
