I'm so used to telling people "you're not interesting enough to be targeted by spies", but ever since DPRK went all in on state-sponsored cybercrime, now it's more like "no, actually it's entirely plausible the dude who stole your Roblox works for a foreign intelligence agency".

Went to a Volvo dealership to test drive EVs a few weeks ago; They had none available for test-drive. Said that most sell out or are spoken for as soon as they arrive. Large lot packed with ICE vehicles though 🤷‍♂️
Shopping for EVs in the US is infuriating. It’s a process of finding a super cool option that’s not huge and is significantly cheaper than other options and then finding out they don’t sell it here.

Former farm kid and current ag scientist here. This checks out. No notes.
The degree to which people romanticize farming is inversely proportional to their degree of actual proximity to farming and farmers

This is basically a mathematical law

As someone who spends a lot time thinking about the values I want to teach my kid (besides PLEASE DON’T EAT DIRT), the thing I keep coming back to is this: I want him to believe that the strongest, bravest thing he can do is give a shit about other people—especially ones who aren’t like him at all.

unleashing social media on the world at large was like inflicting smallpox on immunologically naive peoples. Only psyches scarred over by endless stupid flamewars on usenet or IRC were truly ready for it

Stop what you're doing and read this long thread. It's not just that most people are decent, it's that they're better than that, given the chance. Thank you so much @jenwang.com
Update on my life: Last year, I joined my kids' school's PTA, because they needed a treasurer and I'm good enough with numbers. It was a straightforward, self-contained job: balancing the checkbook for an organization that only did a few fundraisers each year.

I think it’s easier for many American tech workers to claim that H-1B workers are cheaper to hire (they’re not, they cost more due to having to pay for their immigration process and match prevailing wages) than to admit foreign workers are highly qualified to do their jobs.

It’s motivated reasoning

Hello Bluesky! I've been on Threads and Mastodon since the great 🐦 upheaval, but I heard that Bluesky had Brazillians of new users, so I wanted to check it out.
