Hi. I’m new here. I’m a math tutor who loves math and making art. I weave beads using math and geometry, sew and mend clothes, draw, and paint. I like math art and rainbows. Two of my favorite things to paint are black holes and color wheels.

Stay connected.

A little color therapy always helps. It’s been a while since I played with my seed beads, but I thought I’d thread a needle and make some of my old favorite designs, like these Victory Pod Earrings in purple and gold.

Happy Sunday!
Pair of beaded earrings sitting on a watercolor painted color wheel. The earrings are pod shaped and have rows of seed beads.

I did a search on “frito lay salt crystal shape” and found what you described: a hollow square pyramid. Very cool.

15 September 1935 | The Nuremberg Laws - discrimination, racist & antisemitic laws, were enacted by the Reichstag in Nazi Germany. The laws excluded German Jews from Reich citizenship, disenfranchised them, and deprived them of most political rights. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuremberg_Laws

It always makes me happy when my artwork finds a new home, but I’m really going to miss this particular painting. It’s acrylic on canvas.

Very excited to have some original @gwenbeads.bsky.social art hanging in my home!!
Cool painting based on cellular automata hanging above an upright piano
gwenbeads.bsky.social
Wow! What an honor to be hanging over your piano! Thank you so much Isaac. I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I have. Good timing too because we just send the files for the book to the publisher last night.

Thank you so much. Making art can be meditative.

Circular dogs are much easier to draw than dog shaped dogs. This painting exists to prove that you don’t have to know how to draw in order to have fun with paint. #painting
Circles of different sizes, each with a simple cartoon dog face. The circles appear to be in different layers and in different orientations.

I wish someone would make a captcha with Donald’s signatures.

Does anyone actually believe Donald Trump didn't sign that letter to Jeffrey Epstein? The fact they are so desperately trying to deny the obvious is just more evidence that he is completely guilty of it all”

Below is an array of 9 versions of Donald’s signature that are all virtually identical, including the one on the Epstein birthday card in which Donald alludes to raping children.

For example, the Republicans' effort to stop Revolution Wind project has gotten a minor amount of mainstream and social media attention, but @magaziner.house.gov committee hearing questioning about their arbitrary and capricious attempt to stop it has less than 500 views.

Often when we “cancel” we can describe that more specifically by saying that we are factoring out a giant 1. The giant 1 distinguishes that particular type of cancelling from other inverse operations like adding x-x, or taking ln (e^x), for example.

I used to teach Math for Elementary Teaching at the university, but now I am a private math tutor. One of the most important things I’ve learned from the kids I teach is the notion of the “giant one” like 5/5 or x/x. We use giant 1s for finding equivalent fractions, simplifying and division…

Here are four ways I’ve found to solve an nxnxn cube to embed a trefoil knot. Five layers is the smallest cube I’ve been able to put this knot on. On a 9cube, I’ve found solutions that use 2 colors of thread, 2 faces, and a solution that leaves the reverse side solved as solid colors.
Four images of nxnxn Rubik’s cubes. Each has been solved to depict a trefoil knot.

Because there’s nothing like hand sewn cotton jersey. I love the stuff. (I have an another jersey shirt that I’m 95% finished sewing.) Your outfit is so creative, colorful, and fun. FYI, I’m going to G4G in ‘26.
gwenbeads.bsky.social
You look wonderful in that outfit!

Thank you. Did you find the teddygrade, I mean tardigrade?

The story behind this quilt from 2016 that I felt the need to repost today -

Colorful Sesame Street-themed quilt. The design resembles a Mondrian painting, with blocky area of color set off by black lines. Several blocks have appliquéd eyes of characters from early 70s Sesame Street including Big Bird, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Count von Count, Cookie Monster, Bert and Ernie. At the top right, a long, thin block has appliquéd letters like the Sesame Street sign

Years ago, right after I started a new job, one of the old-timers dropped by my office and asked me if I had any cookies.

I opened the drawer of my desk and didn’t find any treats.

So I said, “Sorry, no.”

He responded, “That’s fine. The fact that you looked is what’s important. I’ll be back.”

Nice. I see crabs and bunnies.

This is a two-sided quilt I sewed while living in San Luis Obispo, a long time ago. The quilt lives in the library at SLMath (MSRI) in Berkeley. Scroll through the comments to see the other side.

One of @gwenbeads.bsky.social's beautiful mathematical quilts hangs in the Austine McDonnell Hearst Library at SLMath (MSRI), where it has been enjoyed by many of our visitors over the years. She has shared more about it here: www.beadinfinitum.com/GwenGallery/....

Excellent. The pink square near the bottom right explains how this is an example of a more general property. The property lets you count the number of components in the border knot (here 2) given the length and height of the rectangle and the width of the border.

Thank you for sharing. I am so honored to have that quilt hanging in your library. I don’t think most people who have seen that quilt know that the backside also has an interesting mathematical design of a Celtic knot. So if you want a change of scenery, flip the quilt from time to time.
