Excited to present WHOLISTIC, which extends the concept of whole-brain functional imaging to the entire body. Pioneering work by incredibly talented Virginia Ruetten @vmsruetten.bsky.social, this platform reveals whole-organism cellular dynamics in vivo.

I do not understand how this works. The NIH reimburses actual expenses and doesn't hand out checks for the full grant amount. So how does a multi-year award affect how many grants can be awarded? It's not like the NIH can bank the money either across fiscal years either. Is it budget uncertainty?

What a world. Does this mean that R13 grants can only be used for conferences that guarantee domestic-only attendance???

Happy birthday! Here's to hoping they won't ask you to revise the date...

If that point is "what are we doing here anyway" I'm in full support 🤣

I'm not sure that's a relevant question 🦆

In 2021, archaeologists announced the discovery of the 3000 year old Egyptian city called "The Dazzling Aten" near Luxor.

I want to call your attention to a brick wall under the red arrow. It's 'serpentine' & a single brick wide, separating a housing complex from the road.

Why the odd shape?

Wouldn't it be nice if money would flow to fund research instead of funding a new layer of glossy paint? But who wants to put that on their CV "bolstered existing programs"...

Truly enjoyed the scientific and social interactions at #KSNeuroimmune2025 in Whistler. Besides presenting our work & talking science, I went rock climbing with PhD student Lynette! We also hung out (a lot) with @haesemeyerlab.bsky.social & the #zebrafish crew, including a nice hike to Lost Lake!

TBH I don't think that Marr's choice reigns supreme 😉, so I don't find it anymore annoying than the general lack of clear definitions for most terms used in (neuro)science 😀
