"Some say" LOL. Come on, you're talking about consumer-facing products here. You can easily look up common definitions of opt-in and get, basically, "a clear and unambiguous signal that the user agrees".

Kill-switch implies the opposite - there is something to kill. I.e., opt-out *by definition*.

There is no grey area: "opt-in" means the feature must be volontarily enabled/activated/turned on/subscribed to by the user. Period.

If a feature comes in enabled by default, is it *not* "opt-in", no matter the semantic games you may want to play.

I love the idea that a "kill switch" can be opt-in. By definition, there has to be something there to be killed, which is literally the opposite of any definition of opt-in.

I've spoken to a lot of folks about what counts as opt-in. Some say spam email sitting unread is opt-in.

Sure, the people who say that happen to be spammers, but we gotta Both Sides it here to give the spammers a fair shake. Because the CEO can smell their checkbook.

So clearly it's a grey area.

When did I opt in to this?

What in the absolute fucking shit are you talking about?

“Opt in” means “require the end user’s consent to activate the feature”. It shouldn’t be a difficult concept to understand unless you’re thinking like a rapist trying to find an excuse to get to a woman’s pussy.

You can start by reading the Crash Course here: https://shavian.neocities.org/crash-course And you can refresh your memory and sharpen your spelling by playing games like these: https://bsky.app/profile/hai1touch.bsky.social/post/3lpv3pi3oss2z

My first #Shavian word game was Shingo!. It’s an adaptation of #Wordle into the Shavian alphabet. To balance the larger alphabet size (48 as opposed to 26), you get 7 guesses, and the first letter for free like in the #Lingo TV show. https://haitouch.itch.io/shingo #IndieGame #GameDev #WordGames

I’ve also made Liddle, a Shavian #WordLadder game most directly based on CraftWord craftword.game by Luke White. You can insert, delete, and anagram as well as replace letters.

Another #Shavian word game I made was Tweenie. It’s an adaptation of Betweenle betweenle.com by Nebula Bytes, with additional spiffing up with animations and sound effects.
