Reading @ceruleancynic.bsky.social's "Strange Practice" and it is brilliant. It's got all my favorite things: vampires (of multiple varieties), Solidly Decent People, medicine, a heroine as competent as she is exhausted (read: very). Big big big recommend.

Also jeeze I just love vampire stories!!

It's been a rough stretch in my tiny corner of the world, but we just had a gorgeous morning out with the kid, the weather is *finally* turning, and I am sitting on the back porch in the cool breeze writing poems with my dog and my beloved while the baby naps. Grateful for this small perfect moment.
A photo featuring a blurry notebook, pen and glass of iced coffee in the foreground. The background, in sharper focus, is a crunchy dry lawn, a fence and a stone wall, and behind them a bright blue sky.

Listen I know how serious the issue is.

But Portlanders protesting at the ICE facility are some of the most unserious people alive and it's being effective. You can't get good "tough on crime" optics when you're attacking a guy in a bear mascot suit or a girl in Victorian garb having a tea party.

I'd be delighted to, although it's been a while since I've provided critique.

One thing I adore about the poetry community here is that people share older work. It's wonderful. We should celebrate past publications with the same joy as new ones! @barrenmagazine.bsky.social pub'd this way back in the day barrenmagazine.com/common-time/

Quote this with an older piece of yours!
Common Time - Barren Magazine
There is a rhythm to it, the banality of breathing in the same space for years, inhabiting the same room, but at a distance.

We must continue Dr. Jane Goodall's mission and all fight for the future of the planet.

YES. And I'll dedicated a notebook to A Special Project and then inevitably it just becomes another random notebook so who can say which poems are where??? Certainly not me, the person writing them!

The creeping dread of knowing you have a poem draft to work on but you *cannot* find the notebook where you wrote it down!!!!!

Teapot spirits 🫖

#art #cuteart #traditionalart
Illustration in acrylic gouache and colored pencil. It depicts three colorful teapots, surrounded with little, playful ghost-like critters. The first teapot is tall and slender, it’s red with white, yellow and blue floral patterns. The second teapot is tall and a little wider, it has a muted green color and a lily of the valley painted on it. The third teapot is short and wide, has a wooden handle and is painted in a sunny yellow color and daisy patterns.

Got a submission out right under the wire for September. I think one a month feels like a good pace for me. That's slow compared to a lot of people, but these days I'll take slow and sustainable every time.

Now I to figure out where to send this acrostic!

Says a lot about the state of popular science reporting that some techbro doofus can pretend he's going to be immortal and that will grab more headlines than "Hey we have a gene therapy that slows the advance of Huntington's by 75%," or "We gengineered a pothos into a living air purifier."

I wrote an acrostic tonight for my #APoetsGlossary project and it's....... really good actually? Like I'm kind of impressed with myself.

The next form to tackle is an aisling, which seems tricky given its cultural context, but I think I might have an angle to pursue.
