Pretty sure the nearly 400k enslaved people & however many white abolitionists at the time would disagree that it wasn't immoral. Also, saying "simply being owned isn't horrific" shows you have a lot of learning to do abt what it was like to have someone try to control of every aspect of your being.

This is not the first time we've seen federal agents direct chemical agents indiscriminately at members of the public in Chicago. Not at people attacking them or even protestors, just people going on with their day.

Here’s video of federal agents doing a drive by pepper spraying that hit a father and his one-year old on Saturday when the Feds were hitting Little Village and Cicero

He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

Her husband told her that detainees at Broadview had to get up at 5am to get in line for one bathroom. He often peed himself. One time he had to wait until 2pm to use the bathroom. You could only use the bathroom once a day. He said the agents would beat you if you used the bathroom on yourself.

And there's also this "[H]e was discussing in the hallway with various members of the faculty...that a neighbor’s dog had been barking pretty relentlessly & was, you know, keeping the baby & probably the parents awake & that he kind of lost it & took a shovel and killed the dog. End of problem"

This was our conversation in site council yesterday! Happy it's happening all over. Sad it's come to this.

As others have pointed out, the idea that we can control their behavior by modeling respectability (cooperating with the compulsory grief around Kirk, for example, and not saying truthful/angry things about him) is akin to an abused person's belief that they can control the abuse by being perfect.

I abhor violence, even as I was targeted with violent threats. Turning Point USA has a professors watchlist: it has been used to harass hundreds of academics, many women, people of color and LGBTQ people. 3/
