Which transistors are used int he KIM-1 and clones?
The LED driver and serial circuit require transistors.
MOS used 2N5371 and 2N5375, in later KIM-1s a wider variety. A question in forum64.de in the Nachbau KIM-1 thread made me look at my KIM-1 retro.hansotten.nl/6502-sbc/kim...

50 years of KIM-1 and me

retro.hansotten.nl/50-years-of-...

I have collected some KIM-1's over the years. The first KIM-1 in 1978, and now I have nine original KIM-1s, from first edition to Rev A, B, D, E , 2x F, 2xG.

And several reproductions with 6532's as replacements.

The Edison system, language and OS.
Per Brinch Hansen, the master of simplicity in IT. Book from 1982, disks dumped in 2025, files extracted in 2026. And with simh you can run the Edison system.

Faithful replica by Eduardo Casino of the K‑1002 8‑bit audio Digital‑to‑Analog Converter card for the KIM‑1, SYM‑1, and AIM‑65 computers, originally designed by MTU in the late ’70s.

The KIM UNO, the little cheap KIM-1 hardware emulator needed some information added. Photos, links, text.

Like the recently acquired KIM UNO from retro4004bits, alternative firmware by Willem Aandewiel for better LED display and Keypad control.

The MCS6530-005 was known to me only by some lines in MOS pricelist and a remark in an OSI appnote as a 6530 without ROM.
Today I received a scan of a MOS Technology sheet with the chip equations of the MCS6530-044 and MCS6530-005 (thanks Scott Barnes!).
No CS1 and CS2, just I/O ports PB5 and PB6.

And now the KIM-1 Simulator can also use a serial terminal, external or a terminal emulator such as Teraterm, Minicon, Putty etc on the same PC with a null modem eliminator .

The Jolt/SuperJolt/TIM Simulator got serial input/output!
USe with an an extermnal terminal like VT100 (or PC).
Or local terminal emulator with a virtual null modem, com0com on Windows, socat on Linux.

cott Lombard started many years ago on a replica of the Jolt. Quite a challenge, since only photos are known of the Jolt.

He succeeded in finishing a working replica

He also made RAM and ROM cards, and made a Tiny Basic Enhancement package,

KIM-1 Rev D building progress.
All passive components acquired and soldered on.
Keyboard assembled, will be connected via low profile pin connector.
Next step is testing power distribution to all IC sockets.
Then the Reset and NMI circuits with the 556 timer.

Another revision of my observations on KIM-1 revisions changes.
The keyboard changed from Rev B to Rev D, requiring new holes in the PCB and so some traces had to move. Note the change in style of the PCB layout, not curved but straighter lines.

First KIM-1 50 years! Now I am building a KIM-1 myself! Rev E reference, the BOM is excellent!
I am not aiming for an exact replica, I want to test things with it, so IC sockets.
