This is insane.
Ukraine resolution at the UN called Russia an aggressor and demands the full withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders.

The United States, Israel, and Russia voted against it.

Every free democratic country around the globe voted in favour. #EndImpunity

issue with “hire more conservative professors” is that they don’t mean “hire a smart guy who happens to think taxes should be lower”, they mean “hire a movement conservative”, and these days there are multiple litmus tests for being that type of person that are “insist this false thing is true”

The consequences of “disrupting” the US government are somewhat different than the consequences of disrupting Twitter after you buy it.

some people really try to make housing policy more complicated than it needs to be, when the crux is actually quite simple:

if you make it easier to build more housing (through financing, zoning, building codes, etc.), more homes will be built and rents will go down

Twitter was very representative of American voters in 2024, whereas before it skewed to the left. Going forward it will increasingly skew to the right, and Bluesky's massive left-wing bias will decline, but I doubt that Bluesky will become more representative of US voters than Twitter anytime soon.
to be honest the main reason I’ve been wary of this site is because it feels like the only acceptable opinion on the 2024 election is “Democrats lost because Kamala Harris did not burn an American flag on the White House lawn declaring death to the AmeriKKKan empire”

This is so true. Economics and material circumstances are not the primary driver of politics, especially in rich countries of the 21st century. The most important factors are narratives and "vibes".
The smug liberal consensus on how politics works is incredibly, incredibly wrong, and all the wrongness is rooted in the same place: a refusal to acknowledge that politics flows out of the social and psychological more than the material and economic, and is therefore not a solvable game

Why are Trump supporters not wanted ? You dont have to follow them. You can block them. You can filter words. Don’t you want @bsky.app to have all perspectives ? I certainly do.

As long as it’s civil. Why not welcome different viewpoints ?
I don't understand Trump supporters. Why come where you are not wanted. It's odd. Witness me syndrome in the worst way.

Getting sick of people saying we cannot or should not ask academics/activists/online randos to avoid electorally alienating language. This is not a big ask. It is certainly a smaller ask than "please take up arms", which is where we'll end up if we don't clamp down on this shit.

and the reason this is important is that politics have not stopped happening. trump is set to squander whatever goodwill he has with the voting public and this is an opportunity
incredible number of you do not seem to understand the difference between trump’s base and the marginal trump voter, i.e. “the people who gave trump the win.”

DeSantis is ending this campaign a lot like Cruz did in 2016. Both consider themselves honest, Christian men who play by the rules and, after indulging Trump, are dumbfounded that he gets away with lying and breaking the rules to destroy them.
