@cjayanetti.bsky.social I have been reading several recent articles on affordable housing. Can you recommend any recent writing on government progress on social housing? Thanks!

The UK’s independent scientific bodies are highly vulnerable to politicisation - over the past 5 months I've been working with @martinmckee.bsky.social to map out their vulnerabilities and it's not good news.

Today our report is published!

British doctor comes back from Gaza and confirms two things we knew: 1- the Israelis *specifically* confiscate formula feed to starve children 2- there is a clear pattern in gun shot wounds pointing to the fact that IDF soldiers are playing games hunting humans.

🚨 RIGHT NOW opposite Labour Party HQ in London.

We’ve turned their street into Jabaliya camp in Gaza. A genocide is happening, but the Labour government is supplying weapons, intelligence and diplomatic cover to the perpetrator. Protesting this is not terrorism.

So if you cut winter fuel payments, some people start to think you don’t care if people can’t heat their homes.

And if you make it harder to claim certain disability benefits, people think you don’t care about the most vulnerable members of society.

Lovely piece about how the government sought to misuse FoI law, and how the government was defeated.

Enjoy the story.
🔴 Remember Aria, the “moonshot" research agency dreamed up by Dominic Cummings?

It's funded by £800m in public money but exempt from FOI laws

This is the intellectual environment that the Starmer government is trying to ingratiate itself with
BRENNAN: The countries seem kind of random. Why are the Heard and McDonald islands, which don't export to the US and are quite literally inhabited by penguins, why do they face a 10% tariff. Did you use AI to generate this?

Take "aliens" - to whom they can be performatively cruel.

Take universities, law firms and the media - which they are seeking to intimidate.

And take foreign states - where tariffs are being used to cut supposed "deals" (which Trump will renege on).

In essence: the three impulses of the bully.

There's nothing you can do to 'support' or 'bolster'; you can offer subsidies, but you have to tax to finance them, which we all pay for. All you can do is lower trade barriers with other countries than the US.

This is *essential* reading on the current sentencing council Discourse, both explaining what the sentencing council actually is, and quite how ridiculous politicians are being over it.

A shame we don't have a former DPP as PM who would understand the nuance of the situation. *Glances at camera*
