@maryannehobbs.bsky.social I'm currently really getting into Djo - aka Joe Keery - aka Steve Harrington from Stranger Things - he's smashing it atm with End Of Beginning, and he has an album that sounds like The Beatles 😎
That boy has talent!

ROBIN OF SHERWOOD (1984): Michael Praed was The Hooded Man in Richard Carpenter's dark ITV drama, which fully leant into the mythology of the character. Magic, demons, the supernatural, pagan myth, and Robin's Obi Wan Kenobi, Herne the Hunter, all featured. Still the best Robin Hood ever!

I wish I'd thought sooner to explain to tradpub editors that illustrating a graphic novel is not like writing a prose novel or illustrating a picture book, a 250-page GN is actually like illustrating eight picture books.

5. Being comfortable alone

BREAKING: “What is becoming increasingly apparent is the falsehoods that were peddled by Nigel Farage and others at the time of the Brexit referendum…all you had to do was leave the EU & you would have £350m a week for your NHS, well it hasn’t materialised”

I caught up with this earlier - Matt King's blackbirds (Four Calling Birds, innit?) were very good, even if the icing was a bit rushed, and I do think the Super Hans cake would've been better if the legs were made of jelly 🧑‍🍳

I love ghost stories at Christmas, but I'd love it if one year the BBC would commission an indy author's ghost story into a production. MR James is good, don't get me wrong, but there's so much wonderful contemporary fiction that's... better. There I said it. It's better.

Not sure Christmas is about war, Charlie. I absolutely do not care about servicemen today, only pacifists, those escaping war, peace - through our venerable NHS veterans, care workers, refugees, as our communities continue to protest against the absolute atrocities in Palestine today.

I will never understand why some people let kids watch Stranger Things. It has a lot of kids being killed and tortured. My brother in law was traumatised by the bit in E.T. when the scientists go into Elliot's house.
I wouldn't let kids watch it.

UK Govt plan to reduce child poverty is welcome but that requires reduction in parental poverty.

That can't be done without equitable distribution of income and wealth, stronger trade unions, progressive taxation, decent housing, education, healthcare, jobs and sound economy.

Who will do that?
To tackle child poverty the government must deal with parental poverty
Labour's child poverty strategy offers some welcome measures, but it won't address the factors keeping families trapped in poverty
