Was ljsd, lukenothugh, at various times. Trying to be better.
I'm honestly not sure it's entirely accurate to say that Robert Jenrick "defected". He didn't leave the Conservative Party, he was kicked out! In that situation, it's perfectly reasonable to join a new party rather than sit as an independent.

I'm generally very careful when crossing roads. But when I visited Romford, I was extra cautious. Because there was no way I was dying in Romford.

"Just treat it like a graduate tax!"

Hang on, aren't we supposed to tax things to disincentivise them

"President Trump and JD Vance" is unintentionally (and hilariously) insulting to Vance.
A lot of people are going to have to get used to the reality that America is no longer our closest ally.
Kamikaze stuff from Badenoch.

Decided to trust Google Maps for a shortcut to work. Followed it despite suspecting it was leading me in the wrong direction. Now going to have to hope this DLR arrives on time and run the rest of the way.

An under-appreciated indication that RTD2 was not the success it was supposed to be is the distinct lack of Doctor Who exhibitions

Missed this news at the very end of last year – King's really will do anything but accept female singers into their choir, huh?
King’s College, Cambridge to launch all-female choir for first time in its history
Over five centuries since its founding, King’s College, Cambridge is introducing its first all-female choral ensemble.

Absolutely bricking it over the interview next week in case they ask about 'salary expectations' (they've not given any indication of what to expect, annoyingly, and while I've been advised on a figure by a recruiter it still terrifies me)

Not to defend Robert Jenrick (no, really, please believe me) – but I don't think he should have to call a by-election.

He didn't choose to leave the Conservative Party. The party leader kicked him out.

He can quite reasonably (albeit dishonestly) argue that he didn't want any of this.

Made the mistake of looking at GlassDoor for the place I'm interviewing for. Organisation as a whole is very good, but when specifying this particular office it's terrible, 1-star.

There's only a tiny handful of reviews (<20) and they're not in the same department, so I think it's fine. But still.

Today was 7/10, by which I mean it was a really nice day with some lovely conversations, but all the while I felt like I may die at any moment

Decided to walk home from work to save money on transport. Then realised I wouldn't usually have worked on a Friday, so I haven't actually saved anything. Then realised I get paid for work so I've made more money anyway. Perhaps my most Homer Simpson Brain moment ever.

At best, this is Twitter c.2021.
it's kind of funny that you can slowly see this site a/b test its way into being a more usable version of pre-musk twitter

The New Statesman podcast really has been given a new lease of life in recent months. What a genius coup to get Oli Dugmore.

The strategy seems to have been "if we tell people what we'll do, they might not vote for us" – and it (kind of) worked, but it means they won't vote for you next time
This is why Labour has in general been a disappointment imo. The work on governing wasn't done beforehand. Worse, they've continued in election mode for 18 months.

I don't know how that is tackled.
As far as I can tell, no real work was done on this in opposition. The manifesto was commensurately vague. I suspect this has been a big factor in another 18 months of drift. Along with the messy map of arguing mayors, most of them deeply suspicious Mcr would get preferential treatment

Finally read my dissertation feedback, after being too gutted about missing a distinction by 1 mark.

Reassured, at least, that the strongest part seems to be my chapter on information law, given that that's what I want to work in. Makes sense that I did worse when it comes to digital archives.

I really like 'The Anxious Generation' – I think it's a really terrific book that makes some really important points.

But the most important point it makes, in my view, is that legislation is not a top priority.
