Great thread. Completely agree. We need to rapidly build European independence to be able to disconnect from an increasingly kleptocratic US (turning into a neo-Russia) and enable us to decide on our own future.
A good day to reread the piece Vessela Tcherneva and I wrote for the ECFR at the beginning of the year

'Land without laws': Israeli settlers force Bedouins from West Bank community.

Ahmed Kaabneh wanted to stay on land his family had lived on for generations. But when settlers built a shack near his home and started intimidating his children, Kaabneh said he had no choice but to flee

Remember: Trump or Russian propagandists might say otherwise, but Putin is not winning, and the Ukrainians are not losing.
I am told that internal Ukrainian army information shows that more than 26,000 Russian soldiers were killed or critically wounded in the month of November. Confirmed by videos. No wonder Putin wants to get Trump to give him territory for free

Corruption is embedded in the US political system. Trump is merely a symptom.
After becoming a congressional leader, a politician’s stock portfolio beats out those of peers by 47 (!!!) percentage points a year through trades timed around bills and firms that later get government contracts

Yes I agree with this. Based on a lot of experience Europe-wide, it’s investment in the track (that is state owned anyway), and political decisions who your railway is to work for that matter. Who runs the trains is then less important.

Make Money Not War: Trump’s Real Plan for Peace in Ukraine

Trump pressures Ukraine repeatedly but almost never pressures Russia. That imbalance speaks volumes.
