Trump Slump
The U.S. unemployment rate rose in November to the highest level in four years. It's a warning sign for the health of a labor market that has been strained by federal layoffs and rising costs. Here's what to know.
U.S. Unemployment Rate Rises, a Warning Sign for the Economy
Employers added 64,000 jobs in November, according to data delayed by the government shutdown. The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.6 percent, the highest level in four years.

Here's another bit of conventional wisdom Zohran completely blew away: His speech was at well above a 10th-grade level. It was complex, erudite, punctuated by deep and fluent references. You don't have to condescend to voters with baby talk! Part of re-establishing norms is speaking like an adult.

THIS IS NOT A DRILL: ICE has detained hundreds of U.S. citizens by “mistake.”

And now they want 100,000 beds and more planes to scale up?

They’re not deporting “illegals”—they’re running a kidnapping ring with government contracts.

Again to the point. Inside federal law enforcement ICE has always had a terrible rep. Place for people who can't get jobs at the more legit/disciplined federal policing agencies. High zeal to beat people up, low competence. Will get vastly worse hiring vast numbers under time pressure.
ICE is going to get someone killed.

This was outside 100 Montgomery in SF’s Financial District.

If you needed proof these rookie hires aren’t trained, here it is. Real feds de-escalate. They call for backup. They don’t drag people down the street w/a car.

Hope everyone’s OK.

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

It’s a difficult proposition for undergrads to work through, but choosing a major isn’t really about what kind of jobs you want to do so much as what sorts of questions you want to think about or *how* you want to think about questions throughout your life.

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

Pretty wild to make your entire case about how immigrants are lawless freeloaders, but having to go to their workplaces and court hearings to arrest them.

The Constitution forbids bribery *3 separate times*.

So important to the Founders they included two emoluments clauses, and made it the only named impeachable offense besides treason.

The Constitution is clear on banning bribery. It's just that Congress and the courts decided to pretend otherwise.
I’m still baffled at how America took one of the basic principles of the presidency — the occupant shouldn’t be able to benefit financially from the office — and just said, nah, that just doesn’t count for this one guy.
An international trucking logistics firm is buying as much as *** $20 MILLION *** worth of President Donald Trump’s crypto coins to influence the administration’s trade policy.

The IRS was a simple test for DOGE: was it really interested in efficiency and state capacity? If so, you support the tax enforcement, the biggest ROI in govt.
Or did it want to minimize parts of the state that bothered billionaires?
We have our answer.

🚨NEWS: Massive layoffs are about to hit the IRS -- around 10,000 employees -- potentially in the middle of filing season.

Of particular interest to the DOGE: Cutting IRS enforcement capabilities.

Reading the pardon coverage...I don't think the significance of the Gaetz/Patel/Bondi nominations has sunk in. People still aren't getting what a politicized DOJ and FBI, with the power to arrest/bug/harass anyone for any reason, would be able to do.
