A quick update on heykidsrocknroll.etsy.com
(TL:DR - I'm suspending US shipping for a bit, otherwise same old same old really)
Hey kids!
Quick shop update, you might be aware that there are some changes happening with shipping items to the USA. I’ll be honest, I’m not entirely sure what the result of that will be or how long it will be in place but, for the time being at least, it does look like there will be some disruption. To be on the safe side I won’t be posting out to the US for a little while, then we’ll see how things stand further down the line.
What with this and the general state of the world and the creative industries it’s…well an interesting time! I think I’ll try and do some dIfferent things with the shop and with the work I do under the Hey Kids Rock’n’Roll banner. Commissions, collaborations, different types of product, one-offs…Lots of ideas bubbling! Do get in touch if you have any ideas or would like something made.
This year is, incredibly, the 10th anniversary of Hey Kids Rock’n’Roll, it’s been really good fun and the one thing I AM certain of is that it will continue to be!
Thank you to everyone who has supported the shop and my daft ideas! Keep an eye out for more soon!
Sean

The photography in this article really feels like The Times are deliberately setting these people up for ridicule. (You can read it without visiting The Times here archive.ph/KZZC1)

Got a lot of time for Elizabeth Nelson from The Paranoid Style. And I think Springsteen can still write a great lyric.

I also need to know: I am fairly middle-of-the-road on Taylor Swift but someone I know called her the Greatest Living Lyricist. She is not.

Who is yours? Either the greatest or your favorite?

It's so incredible how low homicide rates are in Europe. The UK, with a population of 70 million people, had fewer than 600 murders in 2023.

Geoff Hoon was an alt-country fan I think. Saw him at a Jayhawks gig.

Fun reminder of the time Cameron was told he wasn't allowed to enjoy The Smiths (?). Presumably because he was too left wing for Morrissey

I’m old enough to remember when talk of renewable energy was always tempered with the caveat that “what’s the point, if China and India keep burning fossil fuels”. While certainly not the whole story, there’s some genuinely good news in here.

Renewables overtake coal as world's biggest source of electricity
Developing countries lead the historic clean energy charge but the US and EU rely more on fossil fuels than before, a think tank study shows.

Much as I love Broadcast's albums, I think I play this recording of one of their very last shows more than some of them. It sounds so gorgeous and otherworldly. The unreleased song around 50 mins in is sublime. This video had better not ever vanish.

Two weeks to go for us to hit our targets, or it doesn't happen. It's going to be tight. And I know times are tough. But I think it's worth it.

A great write-up (from an always interesting old-school blog - like when the internet was good) with a tremendous final paragraph. A short story in a few lines.

Blog update: Almost 40 years ago this week, "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side" reached number one in the NME Indie Charts. As a factual record of Morrissey's career-based frustrations and woes, it's a record which has no right to sound as beautiful and gripping as it does.

yes, I think him & JPJ knowing their way around a studio and knowing how 'pop' records worked is a big part of it.
heykidsshop.bsky.social
I'm not huge on Zep, although I do really like the odd song, but I think their records maybe just 'sound' better than their contemporaries. Production, arrangement (for all the long solos etc, they're very 'hooky') and, as Andrew pointed out, heck of a rhythm section.

Haha! I'm still don't trust the way I've spelled it EVERY time I do a post about it.
