*Cozy folklore vibes?
*Deeply unsettling folklore vibes?
*Spiciness?
*Reliable and beloved character tropes?
*Dragons?
*Horses?!

In honor of the Heated Rivalry soundtrack release, a PSA:
Did you know Hidden Door has a "Rivals to Lovers" plot card? Did you know you can use that card in ANY of our playable worlds? Did you know you can modify stories using elements from fan fiction?
If you did not know...now you know.

The Princess Bride, for example, contains fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love AND miracles—all tried-and-true romantasy ingredients. So, what are your "legacy" faves in the romantasy genre? Please, tell us! And have fun storming the castle!

There are fantasy stories. There are romance stories. And then, there are fantasy romance stories, which have been around forever and ever but have EXPLODED in popularity over the last several years.

We're doing some research for some new playable stories, and we've got a question for you. What books/films/media do you consider "romantasy," even though they predate the term?

The Nutcracker in the Dracula world is somehow NOT a vampire. But that doesn't mean it's not evil <3 Have you tried our Nutcracker plot card yet? Here's the moment where we meet an EVIL, CURSED nutcracker in Dracula, aka NUTCRACKULA.

We're DONE with our 12 Days of Ficmas reveals, but we are NOT done with Ficmas! We’re mailing stickers to anyone who plays Hidden Door for 12 days this month. Keep playing through 11:59 PM on January 1st, 2026 (your local time!). That’s when we stop keeping track and start stuffing envelopes.

3...2...1! Happy FINAL DAY of Ficmas (and merry Christmas Eve). Our final trope is the last-minute confession. Declare your love in a story, before your space freighter leaves Europa, or before you leave the Land of Oz, or before Mr. Darcy stalks off across the moors. Or just before midnight!
December 24, 2025 at 1:26 PM
Tomorrow is the last day of our Ficmas reveals, but there's still PLENTY of time to keep playing + earning stickers. In fact, the Narrator might be sending some encouragement to players who are very, very close...keep an eye on your inboxes. (2/2)
December 23, 2025 at 3:33 PM
Ah, a trope as old as time. You BOTH gave up your most prized possessions in order to secure the other's gift! Luckily, the most important gift of all is...love. The second-most important gift is a 42-cc 2-cycle gas chainsaw with automatic chain oiler, but that's harder to work into a story. (1/2)

Will you be snowed in with your celeb crush, singing beautiful music together to pass the time (Big Fan)? Or will you be trapped with unsavory guests in a mysterious penthouse apartment—where YOU may become the next meal (Dracula)? Mix & match canon events and original content in Hidden Door! (2/2)
December 22, 2025 at 3:46 PM
Welcome to the TENTH Day of Ficmas! Today’s trope is filled with potential. Picture this: a normal winter day, maybe a little cloudy, a little blustery. Then, poof! A foot (or three) of snow falls overnight. Now, you’re snowed in. (1/2)

No matter how you play it, the Fake Dating plot card will advance your standing in our 12 Days of Ficmas challenge. Play 12 days in December, and we will send you STICKERS! (Pictured here: stickers!!!!!!)

It’s the Ninth Day of Ficmas! Today we’re spotlighting one of our favorite storylines and one of our newest plot cards: FAKE. DATING. Are you a celeb, trying to keep the paparazzi out of your private life by entering a “PR relationship?” Or are you a criminal, faking romance to cover your smuggling?

It’s the eighth day of Ficmas, and we’re drawing near the end of Hanukkah. So, we celebrate the festival of lights with a special version of our inspirational card deck!
December 20, 2025 at 1:52 PM
On this day in 1843, Charles Dickens published a novella titled "A Christmas Carol. In Prose. Being a Ghost Story of Christmas." You likely know the shorter version.
We've been working on a new world with holiday spirit...well. THREE holiday spirits. Stay tuned! And happy birthday, Scrooge.
