The contradiction resolving itself into the fact that both capital and the state largely view artistic LABOR as worthless

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

one thing I learned during 2020 is that "less than lethal" munitions are explicitly designed to be shot into the ground so they lose velocity and bounce up into people and the reason I didn't know that before is literally NO ONE has ever deployed them that way.

Reporter's notebook: I actually began working on this story shortly after footage of the incident showed up last month.

But by the time I finally got ahold of folks, the story grew: 2 *other* faith leaders I spoke with *also* reported being shot w/pepper balls while protesting this ICE facility.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately and not that I have any great insight here but it does boil my blood that so many people in power today have just drained the intrinsic value of any kind of human joy, connection, creativity, cognition, you name it. I mean, what's it all for then?
naomialderman.bsky.social
I cannot understand what these people think the purpose of human life is?

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

Does adding one of those actually alter the flavor of the marinara or bolognese, or just kind of deepen it? Like it is different or just more umami-ish?

Are you starting to get it? He was always going to hit us. You will not change the math by insisting that people assume some magical form of perfect victimhood that somehow reels in a monster. That's not real. And I am so sick of hearing it.

The yearning some people have for the version of American government they learned in 8th grade is so powerful, and so at odds with reality

Hawley also raging about the FBI having "tapped my phone," but that's not what happened here.

The FBI reportedly analyzed data relating to dates and times of some of Hawley's calls during the week of Jan. 6. No wire tapping or looking at content of communications. www.huffpost.com/entry/fbi-me...

Because they know the future is ai tutors and LSA they push through the apprentice route and use up in five years.
I don’t think the future is Ai tutors but I do know that is the goal. And everyone using teach mate Ai or whatever nonsense you think is helping you - you are advancing that cause.

An enterprising journalist that could prove that his aides and advisors are showing Trump fake shit that led to him signing EOs and making policy decisions would be a huge deal. Maybe the biggest story in the history of the Presidency? Bigger than Nixon. Too bad the newspapers quit being newspapers

OpenAI's Sora gambit is somehow even more reckless and arrogant than we've grown accustomed to with the company. OpenAI is betting that it can spit in the face of creatives, workers, and the largest media companies on the planet—and bend copyright law to its whims.

CFP: A Time of Monsters
The monster has been here all along. It is a historical constant that manifests in wildly different ways across time, place, and culture. Whatever form it takes, the monster claws at categories; it un...

One thing I’d be nice if Schatz and others acknowledged is that even judging their hard right turn on immigration in Spring 2024 on its own terms it failed miserably. In July when Harris took over Trump led on “immigration” by 9pts, by election day he led 13pts. At best it, electorally, did nothing
