These are the lowest cost insurance options for a 62 year old Georgian making $65k.

2025: $228
2026: $1142

She will lose $704/month in credits because of GOP cuts to health care.

This is a crisis. We cannot wait to fix this.

This article speaks about "ripple effects." But as these ripples move through the U.S. higher education system, it feels more like the start of a rising tsunami. Republicans are literally trying to break higher ed. Not a joke, friends.

If I was Putin, with agents inside US Govt, these would be the instructions to finish off the US as a global force:

1. Gut safety agencies covering aviation, nuclear, food & disease protection.

2. Dismantle USAID

3. Introduce tariffs to crash economy & cripple food production

4. Betray Europe

I can't think of a faster way to undermine the country than simultaneously firing government workers, cutting scientific research, rolling back protections on public health & environment, & cutting essential services. It's like the US was defeated in war and is being occupied by a hostile enemy.

Hoping for the best but clearly there are reasons the best-case scenario may not be how things work out.
Having an anti-vax person in charge of public health is pretty terrible. On the pod, I asked former senior HHS official Stephanie Psaki what she fears could hit us in the next few years, and the answer was very harrowing.

Dear all federal employees,

DO. NOT. RESPOND.

Default to your union now. Musk has zero official authority in government.

Dare him to fire the entire federal government on Monday.

Non-zero chance Trump, Musk and Putin are now in an open alliance to destroy the democracies of the West.

We need to be talking about it more.

So, they are
- illegally dismantling US govt, disabling Congress
- burning our alliances, turning US into global pariah
- reigniting inflation, exploding the deficit, unraveling US public health system
- putting backdoors into Treasury
This feels more like an attack on the US than a new government.

I rarely refer to anything as a sin, but I make an exception in cases where rich people rip truly needed services away from those less fortunate than themselves. At some point, opposition to actions like this may reach critical mass, even in red states.

There is no possible justification for these firings.
The termination of 850 Indian Health Service physicians, nurses, and dentists will have a grave impact on access to care for millions of Native Americans.

Trump and Musk say lifesaving assistance is not affected by the shutdown of USAID and support to WHO.

I can tell you that is 100% false. #SaveAID www.instagram.com/share/_ogGRd...

Seriously, how hard would it be for the Senate and House Ds to have a morning joint press conference, 7 days a week, contesting Trump's assault on the US right now? Could be a different Senator and House Member each day. We are in a national emergency right now. Our leaders need to act that way.

More alarm bells. The generation of healthcare knowledge has for decades been moving in the direction of reliance on corporate funding. Hollow out the NIH/NSF and other governmental funding and corporations are all that's left.
