Long covid since '22. NYC

I know there's been years of disinfo downplaying the flu in order to dismiss COVID as a threat, but both things cause serious illness and are best avoided. This flu wave is no joke. It's a good idea to get this season's flu vaccine (it's not too late), and wear a well-fitting mask like an N95.

As a disabled immunocompromised person - I wear a fitted respirator whenever I leave the house.

This is the best way I can “take responsibility” for keeping myself safe.

Mask bans put that safety in jeopardy.

What I want you to know about why we’re scared. 🧵

Today NYC Mayor Eric Adams said he hoped recent events would accelerate implementation of a mask ban.

Reminder: There is no evidence that mask bans stop crime. Mask bans make cities more unsafe because preventing people from wearing masks increases the spread of diseases.

Only three days post election & another mask ban has been proposed. This time in Yonkers.

I don’t know how to be clearer - now is the time to put on a mask!

Vance already enacted a ban on mask mandates - we must normalize masking as community care before we lose the right to wear them:
Yonkers mask ban proposal sparks debate
Violators would face fines under the proposal, which has drawn concerns from local students seeking clarifications on targeted masks.

Even if you don’t care about the health of others - you should be masking RIGHT NOW to protect yourself.

Disabled people have been telling you for years there is NO help when you become chronically ill.

This won’t improve in the next 4 years. Protecting your health is paramount. 🧵/1

Listen, if you're feeling the urge to build community & look for ways to resist fascism, I need you to start masking in public again. You can't build solidarity with at-risk communities while being actively ableist, and not masking in public is ableist. Sorry to be blunt, but I'm existentially tired
