The Liberal Democratic Party (of which Sanae Takichi is part) been the majority party in Japan with very little interruption since ‘55. She is a social/fiscal conservative in some ways, though there are farther right parties in Japan as well.

I think that Bluesky arose largely out of the ideas of Radical Pluralism, and that movement itself suffers from being influenced too much by Habermas and Hayek and not enough by Ostrom/Dewey.

I think Bluesky is building dated approaches to moderation and resolution, compared to how modern the other aspects of the protocol feel

It feels like they pull in the latest tech innovations for the protocol, but none of the latest cutting edge ideas for moderation and trust & safety governance

And the NYT clearly does not feel that it’s a worthwhile pursuit. Getting that kind of information out as part of the public discourse will almost certainly require the creation of brand new institutions, and, as much as I hate to say it, will probably involve Wordling there too.

And if that isn’t her context² there’s a time and effort cost for her to surface and explain what her model actually is. That cost is real, and to have that articulation be a sustainable social demand, it will have to be paid for.

But! We have in the past created some social structures for doing so. Participation in them comes at a cost. There is both a social cost to @colbylsmith.bsky.social if it turns out her context² is ~Everyone should be required to address Trumps obviously made up claims.

The second one is incredibly useful to get people to talk about! But unfortunately quite difficult in anything but long term sustained face to face conversations. It’s generally quite hard to get people to articulate those models in a verificationist manner.

The first is the one that people are actually quite good at addressing. You link to the youtube video/audio timestamp for the beginning of the quote, and then people can listen to the [other things he said immediately surrounding the quote].

I’ve been thinking about the “you need to show the quote in its whole context” thing that happened with that memorialization a few weeks ago. There were two different things that people meant by “context”.
