Thinking I might cancel my Reality subscription. The plot is ridiculous and the visual metaphors are way too heavy-handed.

The tech industry has repeatedly shown that spending other people's money on ideas that never come to fruition leads to exponential growth. This implies significant benefits from quadrupling my compensation. In this TED talk I will demonstrate...

Keep making stuff.
Sometimes we’re unsatisfied with a thing we made because when it only existed in our head, we saw all the things it could have been and when it’s done we know all the things that it isn’t, but we can’t see the way it expands into a million new things when someone else unpacks it in their head. 🖊️🦑

Recently I came across Umberto Eco saying a "literature is a machine for producing possible worlds" and I have been thinking about that a lot!

Hello. I wrote a nice long essay about AI and this very strange moment where we're constantly told we're living in the dawn of a strange new future but the only thing that's actually clear is that everyone feels pretty unmoored and uncertain. I hope you'll read it
AI Is a Mass-Delusion Event
Three years in, one of AI’s enduring impacts is to make people feel like they’re losing it.

I'll say it once and I'll say it again. If you think artists are just "naturally talented", you're deeply wrong. The only difference between you and us is that we kept trying when it didn't come out like we hoped.
You can always make art yourself. There's no bad time to start, you can start now.

We should be more concerned about the looming AI joke deficit.

It's getting harder to make jokes about AI because the funniest ones have already been posted as someone's earnest opinion.

Be kind solely because it's the right thing to do. But if that's not a good enough reason, be kind because it infuriates a specific kind of person, and we all secretly enjoy that more than it would be kind to admit.

You know how some McSweeny's and Onion pieces front-load their goodness in the headline, while others deliver in the body?

This one *really* delivers in the body.
"This may be related to staffing problems and the fact that the same person was responsible for lunch orders and patient transport. It’s possible that when asked if she wanted the chicken barley soup or house salad, your grandmother requested a knee replacement."

🧵I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about kindness since I've moved here to Aotearoa New Zealand and would like to share some thoughts. (Please bear with me!):

1. Kindness is learned. It's not innate. People are taught kindness by other people. We are creatures that learn by example.

To look, or not to look: That is the question.

Or to take arms against a sea of red lines, and by ignoring, hodl them.
To win, to gain, no more.
