oh, I gotcha. Yeah it's clear that Spotify has engineered its stream to be instantaneous and use less data at the cost of fidelity (and they have said as much).

Yeah, I don't think suspect it was a bitrate problem at all. On the mobile app, even when I was choosing a low bandwidth on purpose, it would just stop playing, buffer forever, get weird and quit, etc. Just a bad app. The desktop and direct-to-streamer worked well at home though.

oh and if folks want to know my Tidal vibe this year, apparently it's this

In case this is useful: Several years ago I ditched spotify, and I moved to Qobuz (which pays artists the best and also had really high quality streams). I found the Qobuz app to be painfully unstable, and eventually switched to Tidal. They compensate artists much better than spotify.

I'm so sorry. You deserve to feel like a giant stone. Perhaps a large rock the size of a small rock.

Last year I went to the (exceptionally good) Museum of American Art in Fayetteville. They did a shockingly good job of including women artists, from all time periods. Lots of artists I had never heard of before. Many women whose work I was appalled I hadn't seen before, it was so good.

We are about to get into this in granular detail! I suspect that the major requires a bunch of upper division courses that aren’t as “useful” in other degrees, and also I imagine changing this is the main possible route to keeping it.

It was an email that went out yesterday afternoon from the interim provost. I’m not sure I want to get into granular details in public.

A flatmate was reading philosophy as an undergrad. She's now an educational psychologist.

I doubt it? I’ll leave that to my peers in this department to rally their troops

Philosophy students are among highest scorers on LSATS nationwide.

Philo teaches ethics and critical thinking skills--something sorely needed among the tech industry.

(I'm in a Phil dept so I feel your pain. We've been threatened too but made our case as to why we're crucial to lib arts mission)

Several very low enrollment courses, it’s a way to cut sections and create the least harm (is the argument). It’s a common approach when budgets aren’t balanced.

Agreed. Our financial situation is more catastrophic than many (both on and off campus) realize but our tenure density is so low that this would make no sense.
December 3, 2025 at 3:56 PM
They did do this at Chico state because the cuts were so huge, though. I honestly doubt it’ll come to this on our campus unless our new interim Prez is a slash and burn kind of person.
