just saw a video asking “i wonder if the people who are like ‘good art is good art regardless of how it got made’ (ie ai) would also enjoy watching ai-generated sports/games/matches” and i can’t stop laughing. it’s such a great parallel that they’ll never accept.

Saw lots of bad (new) paintings in gift shops today and I find myself loving them much more because the people who made them haven't just given up and become "AI artists." Being not-great at something so you can (hopefully) get better is the entire point.
I'm very tolerant of bad aesthetics - I actually frequently LOVE bad art when it comes from real human beings! But when it's churned out by a fucking machine? It has zero meaning and zero value and actually degrades the reputation and message of the person throwing it at us.

I'm really interested in how like, execs will go "this will be great for artists!" and then every artist will scream at them "no it's terrible" then the exec just acts like *they* are stupid

Some artworks by my mother Judi Carey (1945-2000) on what would've been her 80th birthday. She and PC met while working at Knott's Berry Farm (she at a candy store, he at the Birdcage Theater alongside Steve Martin); she worked as a freelance illustrator, gallery manager, and arts fundraiser.

In 1984, PC was commissioned to design 2 panels for the Binghamton, NY riverfront (near the confluence of the Susquehanna and Chenango rivers). This is the first panel, for which he enlisted the assistance of illustrator Judi Carey for the faces (of Bingham, Whitney, and Jones). #binghamton #art

Musicians: don't use AI art or writing. Writers: don't use AI art or music. Artists: don't use AI music or writing. Let's have some solidarity among working creative people, while such a category still exists!
