Happy to share our paper showing repetition challenges flexible control of prehensile actions under conditions of heightened visual uncertainty. Proud of & lucky to have superstar PhD student Catherine Sager. Also loved working with @iangreenhouse.bsky.social onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

"Universities" are faceless. Individuals - scientists, doctors, staff, students, etc. - worked hard to compete for these awards and had their proposals vetted by panels of experts. These people earned their grants with effort!
mayasen.bsky.social
Ok so yeah, this has quickly become the #1 misunderstanding about the canceled grants

the grants are not “subsidies” or “entitlements” to Harvard or Princeton or whatever

they aren’t going into universities’ endowments

they are competitive contracts won by these universities to do research
mayasen.bsky.social
There is a PR narrative quickly emerging about “entitlement” of elite universities, as if this $ is some sort of subsidy

Harvard & others must counter this quickly

The $ doesn’t flow into Harvard’s coffers - this is grant money, most of which goes to research the govt has agreed has social value

Scientists now believe that there may be life on planet K2-18b. Here's why that's bad news for Democrats.

there are so many amazing middle-grade magical novels for young readers that have come out in the last decade-ish written by people who are not hateful assholes btw, a quick sampling off the top of my head:
The Insiders by Mark Oshiro The Marvellers by Dhonielle Clayton Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston

Dr. Barres was an amazing person and neuroscientist. His story is worth sharing.

This is an amazing book. Anyone who has not read it, I encourage you to do so. There is no more urgent time than now.

We're disappointed to see Ben Barres's powerful book "The Autobiography of a Transgender Scientist" among the ~400 titles removed from the Naval Academy Library. Needless to say, we're proud to have published his book and will keep it — and his memory — alive.

...and congratulations on the podcast @danclyne.bsky.social! It takes bravery to put yourself out there like that and create something so subversive.

I was lucky enough to preview this podcast, and all I can say is "wow!" Chuck goes deep into the CoSo catalogue. The guy must do nothing but listen to their music. A true national treasure.
