The vast majority of what’s happening is communal self-defense. It’s not an about agitating or escalating. The whistles, the honking, the yelling — these are efforts by people to warn and protect their neighbors. 2/3

If Chat GPT actually improves your writing, that's a sign you absolutely suck as a writer. And you should spend some time in shame and seclusion and silence while you work on improving it. Or you can find a writing instructor and do the work.
No, these are very serious comments.

ChatGPT has absolutely no goddamn place in graduate education. It steals from other authors, routinely gets major facts wrong, hallucinates sources, and generally makes the prose flat and boring as hell.

And if you shill for it in my mentions, I'll block you.

This.

I know it’s easy to think the opposite.

But the crazy grab, stab, and shoot?

It’s panic driven.

If these folks felt in control, this crap wouldn’t be necessary.

Don’t buy the bravado.

Stand up for truth.

We are the majority.
If you won’t hear me, hear Jamelle Bouie. He’s right: the ICE operation in Minnesota reads as panic. After Renee Good was killed, the White House escalated force instead of accountability. That choice isn’t strength. It’s fear. And it’s why they’re losing the political fight.

If you can substitute "hungry ghost trapped in a jar" for "AI" in a sentence it's probably a valid use case for LLMs. Take "I have a bunch of hungry ghosts in jars, they mainly write SQL queries for me". Sure. Reasonable use case.

"My girlfriend is a hungry ghost I trapped in a jar"? No. Deranged.

Honestly this works for everything

“I want to trap hungry 19c ghosts in jars to help us with historical research” ✅

“Please read our holiday card; we got a hungry ghost to write it this year” ❌

In case I dont say it loudly enough, I am proud as hell to have been educated by public servants at an institution dedicated to serving the public good, even though we rarely met that charge. I am the scholar, teacher, and librarian I am today because of them.

Remembering today that having your heart broken is a necessary step on the path to becoming fully human. Whichever heartbreak is your first, it’s probably critical that a state break your heart so that you can develop a political imagination. If this is your first, I’m sorry and also welcome.
