The ICOS Ocean Thematic Centre has published the results of the largest intercomparison study of its kind, comparing 27 instruments for surface ocean pCO₂ measurements. One method was proved most reliable.

Stordalen Mire is underlain by permafrost which thawing rapidly, shifting the landscape from carbon-sink to potential carbon source. This carbon release is mediated by microbes that inhabit the three "canonical" habitats in the Mire that form a permafrost thaw gradient (Palsas -> Bogs -> Fens).

Mean annual temperature at Abisko Sweden over the last 100 years. The temperature starts rising around 1970 and continues to the present day.

Soil temperatures at our sampling sites at different depths show significant rise over the 7 years of the study.

Last week Linda & Johannes from @gfz.bsky.social visited to scan the forest around the @icos-ri.eu EC flux mast with a LIDAR drone. All went well, so they scanned the young stand at the @lufluxes.bsky.social EC mast too.

And here a short video of Mikhail's soil chambers in action. We are very confident they will work well since the design has been tested under harsh conditions on Greenland. So far we only operate NEE/CH4 chambers but we plan to add dark respiration chambers and trenches to exclude tree respiration.

This summer @alindroth.bsky.social worked hard to set up soil & trunk CO2/CH4 chambers around our subcanopy EC system. Mikhail Mastepanov, designer & builder of the soil chambers, helped set up Ander's latest trunk chamber design yesterday.
