RSS is, and I say this without hyperbole, an incredibly useful tool for psychological independence in the current environment. Newsblur, as Vajra suggests, is good, I use Feedbin, there are others. Most remarkably easy to set up.

Speaking of the well-deserved death of social media, I've started using Newsblur as my new RSS reader (had to clean up a depressingly large number of dead links, including to sites that still publish but no longer have RSS feeds) and that does still in fact provide a source of good internet

His appeal is denied. He will remain permanently banned on BlueSky’s side.

A huge group of people are in a giant hole in the middle of a rolling field. There is a large sign with an arrow pointing to the hole that says "HOLE." Suddenly the group's attention turns to a new hole, complete with a giant sign with an arrow pointing to it that says "NEW HOLE." One person points to the new hole and says "hey look! So an AppView, which is where moderation like kicking someone off or hiding content from them, where it behaves like we expect social media to (have months, possibly years, of interconnected user conversations) is the purview of hosts with financial backing outside most people's toy budget.
