Chatbots and AI slop are going to ruin countless brains. Yours doesn't have to be one of them. Study history. Read poetry. Get acquainted with Bach, Shakespeare, George Eliot. In a time when people are rapidly getting dumber, we need communities devoted to the life of the mind.

Maybe put a second color in the mix, though?

He isn’t kidding when he calls this the greatest comic ever made. Right in the overlap of My Favorite Comics and My Kid’s Favorite Comics.

Reminding you that the single greatest comic ever made (according to 100% of my moms) has a fifth collection out, and securing a copy for yourself and your loved ones assures you a +1 to your "whimsy."

Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's Thunderbirds started 60 years ago today! @gerryanderson.bsky.social

A British show that fired my imagination as a child (but 20 years later). A childhood that stays with me thanks to the Thunderbird 2 replica in my office. 😌

You should read a small, self-published game today, and I'll tell you why.

There's two kinds of creators. There's ones whose poems, games, novels, comics, artwork recapitulate the same narratives of mass media films and publishing and billionaire-owned news outlets, because the...

Absolutely nobody asked for this but I reformatted my animal yeetability thread into printable poster & zine files.

Introducing, the "Pocket Guide to Responsible & Sustainable Animal YEETING" featuring a revamped rating system. Download links below.
Poster showing various animals and their yeetability rating. For full rating, see the link in the reply. Intro text reads:

POCKET GUIDE TO RESPONSIBLE & SUSTAINABLE ANIMAL YEETING
by franzanth

In this context, YEETING is defined as the act of throwing a “projectile” at a slightly upward angle with low initial velocity. The goal here is relocation, not destruction. Therefore, YEETING is ideally performed toward soft surfaces like leaves to minimize downward acceleration that might result in said projectile's discomfort.

Such a wild story. I own a page of Nanuck's original art from that issue (and a page from the next issue, where Space Cabby hits a home run.)

Look, I know he's running all over the place and causing chaos, but could we at least do him the respect of using his full name, William Nilliam?

We just drove by an accident where every air bag went off including on the sides and the back and side of the car were basically obliterated and it looks like everyone walked away

Seatbelts and airbags, incredible technology.

Regulation works.

Folks, you can't report the United States to its manager. There's no superhero coming to save us.

We don't need one giant act of heroism. We need millions of small acts of solidarity. Help one person in your community for nothing in return. Then, do it again. And again.

That's the revolution.

also a lot of the stuff everybody's complaining about in mainstream tv and movies (myself included) is solved by going to other mediums (comics, novels, etc) because no executive management team cares enough about what we're doing to bother meddling with it lol

As you cancel streaming services, here is a casual reminder that only 16% of Americans read for pleasure anymore, and your local library has hundreds or thousands of books you haven't read.

They would love to see you stop by and renew your library card.

Yeah, I'm mulling over mechanical analogies, and 'ratchet' is as close as I've come to a generally familiar term...but that doesn't fit what you're trying to map to, energy stored and waiting to be released.

Something related to a windlass, perhaps? Or maybe the hook lock used to keep the weights in a grandfather clock from moving?
