A few of us organized a Toronto LPE reading group a couple of years ago but no one took it over. Haven’t head of anything since then but happy to pass on the contacts I do have.

Eileen Blair's erasure that stunned -- and continues to enrage -- me. If you've seen the doc, pls let me know if any of this comes up.

my understanding of him as a defender of objective truth. She was in Spain with him, working in the POUM office, and risked her life to get them back to England. Eileen Blair is never named and only briefly mention in his book. Funder also covers Orwell's broader history with women, but it's...

🧵 Peck is a phenomenal filmmaker and I'm sure 2+2=5 is a great doc, but I really hope that it (unlike this interview) touches on Orwell's marriage. Reading Anna Funder's 'Wifedom' and learning that he literally wrote his wife, Eileen Blair, out of Homage to Catalonia fundamentally altered...

The new documentary "Orwell: 2+2=5" hits U.S. theaters this week.

Director Raoul Peck “knew that this country and many other countries around the world needed Orwell” to help viewers "recognize the signs” of totalitarianism.

I started tracking the TRC's Calls to Action in 2016 and, since Eva Jewell and I stopped writing annual reports in 2023 out of despair, things have only become more bleak.

No meaningful structural changes have been made. They were never even attempted.

"Though conspiracy requires an 'agreement' between two or more people to commit a crime, in practice the mere appearance of concerted action is often enough. This makes conspiracy an especially potent weapon against social movements, which, by their nature, aim to project an appearance of unity."

“I've been thinking about it these days, and after discussing it with my team, I think I'll do just one date in the United States,” Bad Bunny said in his Super Bowl announcement.

His upcoming world tour is skipping the US entirely out of fear ICE may stalk fans outside his shows👇🏽

Artists are rethinking the U.S. altogether. Bad Bunny, Danny Ocean, Anitta, Bells Larsen, Grupo Firme, and many more have all pulled back due to Trump-era policies, visa chaos, or fear of ICE.

America’s music scene, and economy, are losing out.
