The Premier of AB thinks that the feds have no power to act in the national interest when it comes to EIAs, GHG emissions & plastics, but that the feds have not just the power but the duty to afford AB access to BC's tidewater?
I have news for Ms Smith.
There is no such duty.

Or, in other words, if Northback really is trying to convince the people of Alberta that it has turned over a new leaf and has a new project that meets all int'l standards and manages selenium to a zero release standard, why is it also flogging this deadbeat project?

While Northback has promised a new Grassy Mtn mine application it has also continued to try to revive its original proposal in the courts.
The SCC put an end to its latest revival efforts last week.
Good news.
But why is Northback pursuing both routes? Bad faith?

The reviews are coming in on the UCP's American lesson plans they're offering parents while teachers are on strike...

From this Grade 1 teacher, not only do they not align with the UCP's curriculum...

They aren't even based in what most Grade 1 kids can do.

Just gonna say I know zero of their names and I am very happy about that. They can wear whatever they want as long as I never have to learn their names because of a bunch of proto-fascist decisions that will tear us apart.

One of the signs at the rally yesterday said something like: "if only students were a pipeline..."

This Alberta government will struggle to resolve this strike and to negotiate with teachers because teachers hold entirely different values than the government: kindness, inclusion, and integrity.

Holy fuck. I’ve got all kinds of chips on my shoulder about football supporters, especially in Glasgow. This just blew those preconceptions out the water. Actually brought tears to my eyes.

@charlesrusnell.bsky.social spoke to my class yesterday—great session!
I asked him @ Al Beeber running campaign ads while still writing for the #Lethbridge Herald.👇

Premier Smith's mandate letter to Minister Jean mentions all sorts of resources - oil and gas, geothermal, lithium etc but not a word about coal.
So why is this govt so stubbornly continuing to hype this fossil resource?
And what happened to the coal modernization initiative? Is it dead? #abpili

I lived in Madrid when Madrid Centro went into effect and it was amazing. I bring it up all the time as an example of the benefits of that kind of policy choice.

Keep this in mind when people claim cars mean business — closing Central #Madrid to cars over holidays resulted in a 9.5% boost in retail spending on its main shopping street: STUDY.

There was also a 71% drop in air pollution.

Bruce McAllister, while representing our government and Premier at the recent Alberta Next Panel, mocked a child and backed corporal punishment. He has the right to push separatism, but this conduct shows he has no place in government. His terse apology only reveals bitterness.

After cancelling 11 gigawatts of wind, solar and energy storage projects which would have resulted in thousands of clean energy jobs, Danielle Smith decides they should sink public money into another oil pipeline to the coast.

This will surely fail as there is no social license in #bc for […]

As with all of these mandate letters that are being dribbled out to feed the media - after the bash the feds points it's always what's missing rather than what's in the letter that's important. One example: Indigenous Relations - not a word about UNDRIP implementation legislation.

Well also bad deal for BC, and we say no way no how, but even worse for the planet. No more O&G BS we need to be investing in green energy only. Futures of O&G already lowering. #cdnpoli

The Premier wants extra pipe badly and the pipeline companies and producers know it; they'll still get the benefits but they will transfer as much of the downside risk as possible to the GoA. Good business for them & their shareholders, shitty deal for Alberta taxpayers.
