Someone sent me this, and I went, 'Aw, it's Trick or Retreat ☺️💜'

(Art by @clarhart.bsky.social aka www.instagram.com/explodinglob...)
A four-panel comic by Exploding Lobster Comics, titled: the best parts about fall.

First panel, titled 'cozy flannels': a person putting on a flannel.
Second panel, titled 'hot beverages': the same person from panel one now holding a hot beverage.
Third panel, titled 'return of the Old Ones': the person looking surprised with the return of the old ones.
Final panel, titled 'bonfires with friends': the person sitting with the old ones at a bonfire, gathered like friends, all enjoying hot beverages.

This makes me so angry. These people view all life as training for lifelong servitude/work. There's no room for interest, enjoyment, and culture in their bleak vision of education. At least she'll never be in power to see it through. Though Reform are probably worse.

Chris knows how to make a serialized adventure. Here's how he does it.

Given that #mörktober marks the 5th serialised adventure I've written, I thought it might be time to write something about how I approach working on these things.

So here that is.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

As October begins, we contemplate how the sea wind had its way with this now-fungal saint.
scary sea-weathered saint on the church near Hartlepool headland (body of saint is heavily eroded down to a veined or boxwork-like underlying structure of the stone, which looks like weird branching fungus).

Thought you'd enjoy this.

Something for TERMINUS!
I'm creating my own version of an artwork at Tottenham Court Road station.

Obscure arts and crafts, episode 17.
Atop a crowded desk, a collection of pens sets next to an artwork in progress. A sheet of greyboard is covered in a thin layer of cement; a few golden lines have been drawn on it. On the far side of this, a sheet of paper with a more complex and complete version of the same pattern can be made out.

'I'll just get a few more reds and yellows for these final sections...'

Past me, once again creating work for present and future me, with no regard for storage space or financial economy.
A large, dark red towel, laid on a carpet and covered in a scatter of hundreds of multicoloured mosaic tiles.

Must everything be so difficult?
A cardboard box is sealed with tape. The icons on the box indicate that it contains glass, and that you shouldn't use a knife to open the box. A fork is jammed into the seam covered by the tape.

Anyway, don't tone down your games just to cater to bigots and losers.

And don't jam prejudice into fantastical TTRPG worlds just to appease some weird concept of 'historical accuracy' – people get enough of that shit in the real world, they don't need it in their hobbies as well.

And these experiences have an impact!
The person who told me about this game expressed the thought they should perhaps be moderating the representation of their identity and culture in the games they make, because they worry that GMs won't want to engage with it.
I want to shout at that bad GM!
irny.bsky.social
Setting aside the bigotry angle, it's also just unfair on the players – undermining the social contract of the game.
'Oh you didn't pick the right character class? You can't play in the next two scenes. No, I didn't warn you about this in any way. No, there's no alternate path for you here.'
irny.bsky.social
Players? Enjoying the game they wanted to play? Madness!
irny.bsky.social
Yeah, I didn't even play in that game and don't know any more about it, but that's still the vibe I was getting. It's a weird and unpleasant thing to introduce to a game, with little consideration for player experience, and that kind of behaviour doesn't come from anywhere positive.
