1 run in 6 innings from Nola and Ranger. Take the money and run.
itskurt.bsky.social
Would let Ranger Suarez hit me in the face with an 81 mph slider
itskurt.bsky.social
yeah to be clear I want to keep Schwarber. But you’ve boxed yourself in to another guy in his 30s cause you basically can’t afford not to keep him. As for Bryce, I wonder if the rumors he’d move to the OF if they made a big add were true (though whether he *can* atp is another question I guess).
itskurt.bsky.social
Maybe not as *frustrating* as the Mets series was, but definitely more depressing about what it means for this team. They aren’t even chasing *that* much! (he types as JT swings at ball 4 in the dirt)
itskurt.bsky.social
And now it’s like, either shell out a shitload of money for the will-be-33-year-old DH who’s disappointed in the postseason or try to find someone to replace him who is surely not going to be as good as he was.
itskurt.bsky.social
Yeah like I was intrigued by the Luzardo move and obviously love how it’s worked out but it still remains odd that their biggest move in the offseason was reinforcing the best part of the team already.
itskurt.bsky.social
This is so much worse than the Mets series. That was them throwing junk and everyone swinging at it anyways. This is just the other team saying “we do not need to be afraid of you” and being correct every time.
thegoodphight.bsky.social
I know first pitch swinging can drive us insane, but Yamamoto is throwing strikes so far
itskurt.bsky.social
Well if Nola’s coming out throwing 95 I assume he knows he’s facing nine batters tonight, better make ‘em count

“All Casty has to do is break for third step-for-step with Mookie Betts so he can beat a tag there and be prepared to high-tail it back to second if he recognizes that the bunt isn’t going to get him over”

J-Roll here does everything but say “this should’ve worked”. Great explanation by him on how it could’ve.

That said, if the plan is reliant on great real-time recognition and baserunning by Nick Castellanos, you need to reconsider the plan.

Great breakdown here by Jimmy Rollins.

Thomson says the Dodgers “did a great job disguising the wheel play.” But they showed it on the previous pitch and Stott said he knew the wheel play was on. Unclear if Castellanos knew.

I've always been a big Rob Thompson guy and I've always mocked people who call for guys to lose their jobs because of one playoff game, so I'm surprising even myself when I say I am done with him
itskurt.bsky.social
I assume they couldn’t PR Weston for Casty because they were saving him for Bader which is understandable. But knowing Casty is running, anything short of a *perfect* bunt there is asking for trouble.
itskurt.bsky.social
“It was a pretty good bunt” it was! But it was a pretty good bunt by a lefty down the third base line right where the second-slowest player on your team is running to. I just … I can’t.
itskurt.bsky.social
The bunt was six thousand times worse than any decision from game 1
itskurt.bsky.social
Only real bad move by Thomson IMO was leaving Robertson in for the wraparound inning. Everything else was pretty defensible. Guys gotta make plays.

I don't know, people say manager, but he didn't give up a double to Kike Hernandez, and he didn't look like he's never seen a baseball like Schwarber or throw a fat pitch to Teoscar Hernandez.

A lot of things can happen between now and then, but just based on past experience I'm gonna die mad about that bunt
itskurt.bsky.social
We’re focusing on the hitting when it comes to the top of the lineup and very justifiably so but kinda crazy that if Trea puts an accurate throw on the catcher at the plate they might be winning this game?
itskurt.bsky.social
I am about as much of a “it’s a small sample in an incredibly variable sport, shit happens, build a good team and hope the Gods smile upon you come October” guy as you will find and even I do not know how you can get through this offseason without making some substantial changes.
itskurt.bsky.social
It’s a good baseball team. I understand this. I enjoyed spending two and a half hours with them most nights over the last six months. But at some point when it’s best-on-best time and they keep not being the best you don’t get benefit of the doubt anymore.
itskurt.bsky.social
Remember when they didn’t change the team at all

with Opening Day on deck, it's once again time to review the offseason through a very simple lens:

HOW DIFFERENT ARE THE BASEBALL TEAMS?

returning = still in the organization
