This is what Gabriel looks like in his minds’ eye: stylish cloths, shades covering his eyes, and a giant pencil slung over his shoulder. In his minds’ eye the pencil is a weapon. Ever since he received the shock of his life (c.f. SHOCK294.BMF), strange things have been happening. The phantom letters shimmering over his head. The unnerving feeling of constant surveillance. The uncharacteristic, uncontainable impulses. He’s fairly certain somebody is controlling him. Hence the pencil/weapon. He imagines jamming it up into the ceiling, piercing the shimmering phantom letters, reaching whatever lies beyond. If only Gabriel could be sure it’s he himself imagining this act, and not another impulse implanted in him from beyond the veil.

Literally. He could not form the words to explain. In his darker moments, Ewing thought of the deal he’d made with the strange slender man in a green tunic as a curse. But then he’d look down at the shoes and tell himself that it was not a curse. It was a charm.

Anyone who thinks the NYC subways are scary does not ride the NYC subways. Or perhaps hasn't since the 1980s (and even then it wasn't as bad as people claimed).

I cannot emphasize enough that the New York City subway is not scary. It’s one of my favorite parts of living here. I grew up in the suburbs having to drive on highways everywhere and that’s way scarier

It’s funny that we are all acknowledging that private health care is an absolute bureaucratic nightmare designed to limit treatment at the expense of patients’ lives and lots of people still believe that trans kids are just walking into medical facilities and getting treatment without question.
