1. Why haven’t we paid down a cent of the debt?

2. Why can’t we afford to not fuck millions of people over with expiring insurance subsidies?

An interesting part of this interview is Stephen Fuhr's reference to having a toolbox with all the right tools.
The F35 is a very specific use tool.
The Gripen is a much wider use tool.
He also talks about mission types.

I can live with that. Who knows, they may come in handy someday.
The original idea was for 88 F35s.
So 72 not being purchased.
Funny thing is, 36-38 Gripens are just as capable as 72 F35s (2X availability).

The F35 is good if you want to sneak in, make a strike and you're done.
But conflicts like Ukraine that last, the Gripen is clearly better.
For continuous actions it would take twice as many F35s as it would Gripens.

have an 85-95% availability rate. The F35s have a 50-60% rate.
For example - say a conflict requires 10 Gripens. They fight all day and are ready to go the next day.
10 F35s would fight the first day and then spend the next day in service.
10 more F35s would be needed to fight the second day.
