Donald Trump begins with a laugh line: he says he's very happy to be up there without a teleprompter, because the teleprompter isn't working. He's doing crowd work, saying he'll speak from the heart, and that whoever operates the teleprompter is in trouble. The crowd is laughing with him so far.

How much the US has changed: when the US was leading efforts to end the Bosnian War (‘93-95), it refused to allow indicted Bosnian Serb leaders—who many thought were key to peace—entry to the US for talks. Trump’s mtg in Alaska w/Putin—who faces an ICC arrest warrant—is a 1st (& not a good one).

No, he’s not giving Putin Alaska, but he is giving Putin a huge gift: the legitimacy of touching down on US soil at the invitation of a US president. A reward for the full-scale invasion of a sovereign, democratic country that the United States and its European allies support.
