The UCI Law Clinics hosted a wonderful screening of
@ninetyminuteslater.bsky.social, Cyndy Fujikawaʻs heartbreaking profile of Vanessa Marquezʻs life and tragic death. With @susanseager.bsky.social.

From 1851 to 2025. This image shows where we are right now as a country—and it’s not pretty. I can’t believe we’re here. But we will hold onto hope, and keep on struggling, organizing, speaking out, and acting with love and nonviolent resistance. And we will win.

Trump hates to be the object of humor. He understands that humor can be a more powerful antidote to tyranny than any other form of criticism.

I'm sure he'd hate it if you shared this cartoon. [Cartoon by Jon Adams/The New Yorker]

I cannot emphasize enough that this administration shouldn’t get 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘷𝘰𝘵𝘦 from the Dems until they start obeying the law.

Not. One.

Optics matter: if you want people to turn out next election despite troops in the streets, then show them it matters.

Do your goddamn jobs and hold the line.

this is as open an admission that an entire agency is engaging in routine constitutional violations that I can imagine
davidjbier.bsky.social
Holy hell. DHS just openly stated that its agents use “reasonable suspicion” to make ARRESTS. This is blatantly unconstitutional. The Supreme Court is clear that you need probable cause to arrest someone, as opposed to stop them to ask them a question or two. This is huge b/c…

Very Trump-era story.
1. The sword has no meaning for Charles, but matters for the Eisenhower Museum.
2. Illegal for the museum to give away US property!
3. Trump makes no distinction between personal/public property.
4. The person who did the right thing was fired.

Today is Vanessa Guillén Day named in honor of a US Soldier who was murdered by a supervisor who had been sexually harassing her. Her family spent years pushing legislation to protect US military women from SA/SH by changing the process to make them more likely to get justice. Hegseth just undid it🤬
Vanessa Guillén Day is observed annually in Texas on September 30 to honor the life of SPC
Vanessa Guillén and to raise awareness about military sexual assault, harassment, and the military's response to missing service members.
The day was established by Texas House Bill 2248, which designated the date to promote appropriate programs and activities aimed at these important issues.
Background of Vanessa Guillén's Case
• Disappearance and Death: In April 2020, SPC Vanessa Guillén went missing from Fort Hood, Texas. Her remains were later found, and her death was the result of a homicide.
• Advocacy: Her case brought national attention to issues of sexual assault and harassment within the military.
• The I Am Vanessa Guillén Act: Her death was a major catalyst for legislative action.
Congress passed the l Am Vanessa Guillén Act, which implemented significant reforms, including removing the power of commanders to prosecute sexual misconduct cases and criminalizing sexual harassment under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. A photo of Army Spc. Vanessa Guillén

Proud to join this brief written by @marklemley.bsky.social. Congress created a procedure for the USPTO to review patents and the interim director just....decided to disregard it just because she doesn't agree with the policy. If you read the statute, it's quite clear: that's not her call to make.

I filed an amicus brief on behalf of 24 professors challenging the interim PTO director's illegal policy of blocking IPRs for any patent that is more than a few years old.

When your claims of executive authority to harm people are too broad for John Yoo: "a broad, amorphous military campaign against the illegal drug trade ... would violate American law and the Constitution"
maxboot.bsky.social
John Yoo: After 9/11, the U.S. declared that it would wage war for the first time against an organization, rather than a nation. But the drug cartels alone do not present a similar challenge that rises to the level of war. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

Trump’s boat strikes against the cartels risk crossing the line between law enforcement and war.

How Dems (especially Dem Vets) aren't out there saying "to be clear, if these are extrajudicial killings, every single person in the chain of command from the joint chiefs to the person pushing the button will end up in Leavenworth" to at least trigger some hesitancy is beyond me.
