Still can't believe I managed to climb up to Haytor and cycle part of Dartmoor. Breathtaking in a couple of ways. You can't go wrong with @jackthurston.bsky.social Lost Lanes books.

Well this is exciting. And unnerving as the book's still not quite finished. But very much on track for publication in Spring 2026.

Always judge a book by its cover, especially when it's by the brilliant Andrew Pavitt! #lostlanes #lostlanesscotland

Quite an impressive data visualisation on where refugees settled in the UK since 1989 came from. Part of the House of Commons Library briefing note on asylum policy. Link: researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/SN...

Lost Lanes West by @jackthurston.bsky.social today. No 23 starts in Bovey Tracey with a stiff 5 mile climb. Rest at 2.5 needed but lovely route so far.

All the routes from #LostLanesScotland on a single, basically incomprehensible, elevation chart.

If Scottish government bonds are going to be known as ‘kilts’ then when the Welsh government issues debt the bonds should be called ‘quilts’. You heard it here first, folks.

A cap on the bike to work scheme would put downward pressure on bike prices, good for all.

Back when the cap was £1000, it led directly to the unprecedented “£1000 carbon road bike” that underpinned the early success of PlanetX.

Crazy floods in Abergavenny tonight. The lane outside our house is 3 ft underwater, with an abandoned vehicle, water pouring through gaps the wall into my rhubarb patch. Down the hill there are walls exploding, many shops inundated. #stormclaudia

Increasingly likely that "all pain, no gain" will be the title of the post-mortem of this government.

Make that Parliamentary Undersecretary for Paperclips material. FFS what a clown show.
It comes down to can you do the job. Gordon Brown was a masterly Chancellor but always struggled as PM. Keir Starmer feels more like Foreign Secretary material than PM. But I'd take either of them over Sunak, Truss, Johnson, May, Cameron etc.

@ged-ben.bsky.social Hi Ian do you have data on participation @audaxuk.bsky.social calendar events broken down by UK nation/region? I'm looking for a stat on participation in calendar events in Scotland. thanks, Jack.

I was having this weird 'conversation' with ChatGPT the other evening, about climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, Milankovitch cycles, Ice Ages and all that stuff. Very informative, until... 1/2

Enjoyable evening in Bristol with @annacycles.bsky.social and a select crowd. End to End touring tales remembering the late great @timcyclesthecoast.bsky.social and veering into cycling & mental health. Never a bad day on the bike, as Tim would say.

Love the line from Jon Stewart that social media serves up “ultraprocessed information”, like junk food, lab designed to give you a hollow fix of sugar, salt and fat and the aching need to come back soon for more. pca.st/episode/50f6...

I’ve become that sort of mid-life cyclist who already has (or has had) all the normal bikes and is now only interested in the freak ones. N+2 collected today. How long before I’m sniffing around recumbents?
