All the granite curling stones in the Winter Olympics are quarried on Ailsa Craig, a small volcanic island off Scotland's west coast. A chain of these geological relics stretches across the Central Belt as far as the North Sea. And they're the theme of a ride in m'new book Lost Lanes Scotland.

Did you know that the first hub gear was a two-speed. William Reilly's The Hub (1898). The higher gear was a freewheel, the lower gear was fixed. Which makes a lot of sense, if you think about it.

The best cycle lanes are wide, beautiful and completely separate from other roads. This type of infrastructure is common here in the Netherlands. They often connect cities and offer a great alternative for driving.

Went to a @willfoth.bsky.social screening of A Sunday In Hell a the Borough Theatre in Abergavenny last week. If you've never seen it (a) on the big screen and (b) in the original Danish version, I suggest you track down a screening near you. Was sensational.
