NIMBYs near UCLA worked to end transit service to Hilgard Terminal, a bus stop that existed long before many of their houses.

Colton was already divided on racial lines by the tracks before the 10. But while the route avoided displacement in Latino/a South Colton—unlike our other case studies—the highway came to reinforce racial barriers and disinvestment.

Colton was already divided on racial lines by the tracks before the 10. But while the route avoided displacement in Latino/a South Colton—unlike our other case studies—the highway came to reinforce racial barriers and disinvestment.

Neighborhoods along the corridor have grown increasingly segregated. In the northern part along I-210, the share of residents of color increased, while areas south lost residents of color and housed an increasingly disproportionate number of white residents. (4/11)

The North Westwood Neighborhood Council passed a Community Impact Statement I wrote condemning an expansion of the 41.18 anti-homeless policy, making it criminal to shelter in large swaths of the district. Those w./ nowhere else to sleep deserve housing not arrests: clkrep.lacity.org/onlinedocs/2...

As SR-15 in City Heights in San Diego took nearly half a century to complete, with a prolonged delay, the area racially transformed. Issues from the "Spur" contributed to white flight and growth of populations of color. When SR-15 finished, advocates fought for Teralta Park, a freeway cap.

West Fresno was once home to a mix of people of color and white immigrants. Planners moved SR-99 from the commercial edge of the neighborhood to residential areas within it—ignoring alternate routes and bypasses. Construction displaced ~1,000 people (400+ homes) and contributed to white flight.

In Colton, railroad tracks separated white & Latino/a residents. Of 3 routes, the one thru Latino/a South Colton was ultimately *not* built. There were protests and organizing, but the route's lower cost motivated selection. I-10 and disinvestment instead reinforced pre-existing racial boundaries.

Operator wages remained largely flat over the past decade, adjusted for inflation, with slight decreases during the early pandemic on some systems. However, pay varies widely by agency and across the state's regions, with pay in the Bay Area generally higher than in Southern California. (2/11)
