How does worldbuilding work, RJ?.

"I need to know how a sextant works."
*Reads up on it.*
'Well, that's complicated and I am not sure I fully understand."
*Invents own world specific navigation method so no one can call you on it.*

Like that. That's how worldbuilding works.

Absolutely loved From Unseen Fire when I read it earlier this year, highly recommend it to fellow fans of political intrigue in their fantasy 😊
Oh hey it's #BisexualAwarenessWeek *and* my birthday week, what a great time to buy books from me, a bi author 💗💜💙

For those who don't know, "all authors" is the operative term here. There has been a concerted effort by TERFs to swarm the SoA in the last couple of years. Their motions lost massively two years ago, but last year they had some success in the actual elections. Vote for competent non-bigots.
I urge you to read the candidate statements, and use your vote to elect those writers whom you feel confident will work diligently to protect the professional interests of all authors.
Thank you 😊

Hello lovely people of Bluesky! Nethergate Writers in Dundee are publishing an anthology of SFF short stories on the topic of artificial intelligence. We are currently looking to send the book out for review.

Does anyone have suggestions of where we should send it?

There are no wasted words.

Everything you write is telling you something about this story.

Sometimes it's telling you stuff you need to know for the scaffolding, sometimes it's telling you what path NOT to follow.

Sometimes it's a different story.

To read widely is to pay attention to whether, at minimum, you regularly read outside your genres, forms, and languages of preference, as well as work by writers with whom you do not share identities, communities, cultures, or places. It is often difficult to notice unwanted patterns in reading

OK so. There is no wrong way to approach worldbuilding. You, the writer, get to choose how to do that.

"Realistic" is not the overarching goal. "Works for the project" and/or "enchants the reader" is the overarching goal. "Serves the story I'm telling" is your specific goal.
