Bligh has a decent amount of support from the province and feds (more than Sim or Allam at this point), which could help.

But her 6 years being a supporter of Ken Sim, and getting elected under both the NPA and ABC banners, means it’ll be difficult to get support from local left-wing parties.

Vancouver councillor Rebecca Bligh makes official she will run for mayor next year under a new banner of “Vote Vancouver”.

Bligh was first elected in 2018 with the NPA, left them, joined Sim’s ABC Party and was re-elected, before she was booted from ABC, mostly on divisions over social issues.

Global News laid off 26 journalists in B.C. and Alberta today.

In B.C. the layoffs include virtually all of the online team, along with many others.

The business is increasingly cruel, and the hollowing out of newsrooms providing fair and reliable information continues to suck.

Sleep Country's most recent Annual Information Form, covering fiscal year ended Dec 31, 2023, shows net income at a healthy $71.5 million. It is solidly profitable. And look down here here in its "RISKS" section for a clue about why it has successfully fended off disposal regulations. (4 of 6)

Let's look at Sleep Country Canada, which makes its own house brand mattresses plus owns Casper, Endy, Silk & Snow, and a bunch of other sleep brands. The company went private in October 2024, but was publicly traded prior to then, which means we can take a peek at its books. (3 of 6)

The province said govt will reverse a previously promised proposal to regulate new product categories under recycling regs due to “consumer affordability challenges.” This is utterly galling. This industry is MORE than capable of covering the costs of the end of life of its products. (2 of 6)
