Addendum: One reason you see a lot more of this flailing about to find new excuses for why Congress sucks that doesn't involve the GOP is that conservatives' old go-to excuse -- Chevron deference -- is no longer available.

Former OMB associate director on personnel here: This is blatantly false and inexplicably undermines Congress's authority. Congress made extremely clear in 2019 that furloughed feds are to be paid, full stop, period. There is no question, except why the Speaker would make such a statement.

Do CBS News executives understand that MAGA will not be in power forever? I genuinely think this is lost on a lot of people. They've gotten scammed by bad actors into believing Trump's 2024 win represented something seismic and even permanent. I predict they'll look back on this as a serious error.

No funding measure that can get 60 votes in the Senate will pass the House. That is unequivocally a "Republican problem." Do most of the press understand that? Are they explaining it to the public?

I love raising my kids in the city. We can take a short bus ride to the zoo or to see dinosaurs. No need to be tough on "crime." Though, I would love to see a crackdown on shitty driving.
