The Alberta Energy Regulator says it will cost somewhere between $57 billion and nearly twice that to clean up the oilsands mining sites and 1.6 trillion litres of toxic tailing waste. Right now, Alberta’s mine financial security program holds only $1 billion for that job.

Best cycling cities ranked: In N America Montreal is #1 followed by Quebec City then Vancouver. I'm not sure why Victoria is not included but it would be competitive. Best in the world goes to Utrecht.

Always insightful, Anne Applebaum's essay on the Trump/Putin misnamed "peace plan" is very good.
This is not a peace plan. It is a proposal that weakens Ukraine and divides America from Europe, preparing the way for a larger war in the future. In the meantime, it benefits unnamed Russian and American investors, at the expense of everyone else.

Another very good example of proof that natural gas exports don't replace dirty coal. This example is about Australia's exports but I bet BC's (Canada's) exports amount to the same. @davethompsonvic.bsky.social
HEY FRIENDS

For @thepointau.bsky.social, I decided to do the unthinkable and just actually check whether Australia's gas exports are being a magical climate solution and displacing shittonnes of Asian coal

You know what I found, but you will enjoy me saying it:

Congrats BC residents, most believe in science and have not fallen for disinformation about vaccines.
Based on my back of the envelope calculations and 2024 populations, these are the cases per 100,000:
ON, 14.9
BC, 5.74
AB, 40.1
MB, 17.0
SK, 8.69

We're not as bad in ON as I thought, but nothing to be proud of either.

Instead of trying to green cars so much why don't we just invest in trains. city trains. under ground trains. above ground trains. trains between cities. trains between countries. TRAINS
